The other day I saw an episode in which someone wanted to have them build a knife that propels/shoots the blade. They told the guy that unless it can be deamed an AOW (any other weapon), which means it must propel the blade by use of black powder, it would be illegal according to federal law. I live in Az. and according to expert counsel we can legally buy, use, own, and carry any knife of any size or type, including switch blades, and yes, propeled blades regardless of what mechanism is used to propel the blade, spring or other wise.
I watch the show now and then but I don't think the host is 100% with his advice and knowledge of federal laws. In that respect, I trust my advisor who is a lawyer that practices exclusively in firearm related matters at every level.

actually, no, look up why you can't buy a ballistic knife. they are banned by type. i mean the fake spetznas spring propelled knife

Hope you're not paying to hear that advice.

gamestalker,

You're council is correct that there isn't a fed firearms law involved with spring propelled ballistic knives. The fed restriction on ballistic knives is specific to interstate commerce in ballistic knives while individual states have individual weapons restrictions on sale and possession of ballistic knives.

I live in Az. and according to expert counsel we can legally buy, use, own, and carry any knife of any size or type, including switch blades, and yes, propeled blades regardless of what mechanism is used to propel the blade, spring or other wise.

AZ may not have a law restricting sale of possession of ballistic knives (or any type of knife) while other states, LA included, don't permit possession of switchblades or ballistic knives. You can't apply state laws from your state to other states since they are not consistent from one to the other.

OTOH, making a knife that is propelled like a firearm wouldn't be covered by laws specifying the prohibited knife have a spring mechanism. In the situation in LA there is no way to legally make a spring propelled ballistic knife, but the state law doesn't address non-spring propelled "knives".

As far as the ballistic knife goes, I'm glad in the end Will scrapped it. He said something about "if you want something that shoots, I'll sell you a 1911. But that thing (the knife) is going in the trash."

See, sometimes good decisions are made on the show.

So that contraption qualifies as a newly manufactured machine gun, even if the separate shotguns are semi-automatic, right? If so, how does he intend on selling it to the owner of the scrap yard, who I assume does not have the appropriate FFL license? (I know it's TV and they had to "sell" it to him so the average joe would think they could buy one.)

full rock and roll is defined as multiple rounds with a single pull of the trigger so ya I'm sure it's considered a full auto. Anyone know gun laws in Louisiana?

BUYER-"hey will, im a special forces elite covert tactical government contract operator.......and when were out hunting terrorist pirates, they often have time to dodge ouR grenades, because they hear the shots being fired..........is there anything you can do to help me out?"

WILL- "well, ill see if we cant figuh sumtin out.."

BUYER- "oh great, and ill need that within the next 20 hrs..."

[Will goes into work shop]

WILL-
" all right yall, we need to build a silencer...."

VINCE-
"all right, we have plenty of those, why dont you grab one off the shelf?"

WILL-
"well i would, but last i checked, they dont make no suppressors for a grenade launcher......."

KRIS-
"WWWWHAT!!!!...THIS IS TOTALLY CRAAAAZY!....I CANT BELIEVE WERE GONNA MAKE A GRENADE LAUNCHER SILENCER!!!!!!!"
My brother in law was recently telling me how awesome the show is, but you just convinced me that he's terribly, terribly wrong.

Thank you.

100% illegal for that guy to own. It having an electronic trigger makes it a full auto.

It is when they don't want to hear about it in the first place, or they have no clue what the terms are that you using. California's laws don't make sense logically but they are understandable in terms of following them.

I have tried to give this show a chance about 7 times now, I want to like it . I haven't been able to get through a episode yet. The last chance i gave the show was during the grenade launcher episode where i had to watch one of his employees flirt with his daughter for half of the episode. I dont know how far it went i couldn't finish yet another episode.... the Show is garbage IMO.

and it seems they will be relying heavily on that storyline in the episodes to come.

I enjoy the show and I'm annoyed by it's fake drama at the same time

ok, so i just got around to watching the tazer/ shotgun combo....a terrible idea on its own...

but they actually tazed the kid.....WHILE THE TAZER WAS STILL MOUNTED ON THE SHOTGUN!

seriously......if i saw gun handling like that, ide quit.

You know the producers of that show are just using them to portray gun owners, and the entire gun community, as a bunch of hillbilly rednecks with very dangerous weapons.

If you knew absolutely nothing about guns (see 90%+ of USA) then you would watch Sons of Guns and come away believing all gun owners are Will and his boys.

With that said.....guy may get a nice payday from the producers using him...but he isn't going to get rich selling those BS "weapons"....I think he pays the bills there by just converting Saiga's doesn't he?

I dont find it hard at all to sift through all the fake drama, the largely tele-prompted dialogue, the excessive lack of gun knowledge, and the carelessness of the employees, because it's a show about guns alone, and I'm entertained. Sure when Will claimed he invented the masterkey I cringed, and when he actually hired a guy whose last name reminds me of mucus in the back of my throat I scoffed, and when he sprayed the shop with blanks running full-auto I foamed at the mouth, but hey... guns right?..
*sarcasm mode deactivated*

I gotta disagree.
They're using them to make money. Period. That's the name of the game friend. Every time.

I do agree with you that it may have that effect on non-gun owners though. I can surely see where they would come away thinking a lot of things that are far from the truth.

Yeah, I agree on that one. I enjoy the show, but mounting a less-than-lethal force option to your lethal force option is a bad idea. Those who carry both in the field probably already know why, and most other people wouldn't be thinking about trying it.
