redhawk price check please

So... I think this is a no brainer, but I would like your opinion on this deal.

I responded to a classified ad today that was pretty vague about what was for sale, just sporting goods not able to use anymore looking for a good home. There were several firearms for sale, and after showing me a few good deals that were out of my price range, he pulls out a Ruger box( I am a sucker for a Ruger). Inside is a stainless steel redhawk in .44mag, and I am already drooling. 7.5" or maybe 8.75" barrel with no dings or any issues I can see. I am scared to ask, but I say "how much are you looking for". $500 is what he replied with after thinking for a minute, I am speechless. I guess he thought that meant I was not happy because he said it also comes with all this ammo. I counted 12 boxes:D.

I love my dads super redhawk, but do not know much about the standard redhawk other than they are lighter, and have heard they have worse triggers. This one may have had a trigger job, as it felt butter smooth to me. So anything else I should know about these guns? He is holding it for me till Friday when I have the funds.

I doubt it had a trigger job:
Not sure where the bad trigger rumor got started with the Redhawk. The Redhawk has a single spring design that runs the action and the trigger. Most revolvers have two. This allows for a lighter trigger pull. I have 8 DA's and my Redhawk had the best trigger out of the box.
 
Killer deal you done good. I actually like the redhawk better than the SRH much better looking.Don't forget the range reports.
 
Another question. Did Ruger make an 8.75" barrel? That is what he told me it had, but I thought the longest was 7.5" for the redhawk. I did not measure it, and am really bad at guestimating distance.

I don't recall ever seeing an 8.75?
 
Buy it yesterday

As already mentioned, the ammo alone is worth quite a bit. Walmart charges you $38 for 50 count of Winchester nowadays. 10 boxes of that is $380. I have a 7.5 redhawk in. 44 and it is one of my favorites. It is big and heavy, pretty accurate as well. It is my go to handgun for hunting in the field. Looks like a steal, so buy now and if you don't like it you can deal it away quick. Best of luck.

7.5" is the longest production barrel Ruger put on em .
 
The more I think about it, the more I wish I had the money today. Even then it will be 10 days from Friday, stupid California laws. Thanks for the answers.

The ammo is all 50 round boxes btw.

Redhawks in .44 (7.5") go for $500-$600 around here all the time.

As far as boxes of ammo, they show up in two flavors; 25 rounds and 50 rounds. The cheapest I can buy .44 mag in boxes of 50 is about $25, so about $0.50/round.

I love Redhawk triggers, especially double-action. While I wish the single-action was more hair-trigger, they are at least consistent with a clean break.

Anyway, bottom line is if I could buy a .44 mag Redhawk with 12 boxes of ammo for $500, I'd be very happy.
 
If someone had told me $500 for a stainless Redhawk, I would have handed them cash while the word was still in their mouth.

He is a good gentleman, and knows he is selling below value. He wants someone to be able to enjoy these guns like he did. He is on the highroad even if not a member of this forum. This is probably one of the worse deals he offered, but the only one in my price range. The one I would love to have is a very nice n-frame .357 in a presentation case with lots and lots of ammo over 600 .357, who knows how much .38 and tons of brass, +holsters and accessories for $800. Had a real nice 7mm Mag S&W too with a sweet redfield for only $900.
 
See if he has the Ruger factory scope mounts that should come with it when new, the barrel should have the notches on top where the mounts clamp on. I think it was offered for awhile like that and then was changed.
I have that same revolver with 7.5 barrel, had to buy aftermarket rings for mine.
 
Hmm... I do not remember the notches for scope mounts. I am going to go buy it this afternoon when my dad gets off work. He has been around a whole lot longer than I, and I bring him whenever I can to firearm purchases. Old people and experience or some such nonsense.;)
 
Sorry no good pics till I pick it up from the FFL in 10 days. Some of the ammo was partial boxes, so not the 600 rounds I thought. 300 rounds of 300gr jhp, 50 rounds of 240gr +P+ stuff with a weird tip (it looks like a hollow point crushed in forming a flat point with a little dot of lead in the middle), 20 rounds of federal 180gr SJHP, and several partial boxes of "plinking" ammo various FP and LRN. I will try to find the adapter for my cell so I can post the crappy pics I took.

According to the S/N, The girl is a few years younger than I. She was born in 1989.

I had to part with my Red Hawk 'bout 10 years ago and i still miss it terribly.
If i may suggest something.
Ruger sells after market sights for that gun that you yourself can switch out VERY EASILY.
They change the front blade to a bead and the read square notch to a V-notch. This change greatly increases accuracy.
Don't know if you'll reload for it but this is an extreemly accurate load i used for mine.

Even at 100 yards, ( on a rest of course), this load was very accurate for me.
Man did you do good !!!!
I've been lookin for one fer about 2 years now and if i get even close to one for $500 i'm all over it.
