I'm reloading 28ga, with weighed 16gr longshot, 3/4oz shot, AAHS hulls, and BPSG28 wads.

I am getting a decent crimp (maybe a little shallow), but quite a lot of rattle from loose shot. I'm not getting much if any compression on the powder (no register on the MEC Jr. wad pressure gauge).

I haven't tested the loads for velocity.

Any recommendations? Powder and shot have been weighed and are exact as above. I'm just surprised how much rattle I'm getting. I could move to a WAA28HS wad.

@entropy any recommendations?

I would suggest calling Ballistic Products and discussing w/ them. A quick look at Hodgden Longshot data did not show that wad/powder combo. Longshot in a AA hull with a Rem PT38 (BP a clone of this?) ran up to 15.5 grains at 12,300 psi and 1275 fps. 16 grains might be pushing a tad.

I've had some light loads "rattle" just a hair in the past with no problems.

I’m seeing this combo on the Hodgden loading site?

16gr gives 10,800 PSI, 1275fps, with AAHS hulls.

Wouldn't mind being little lighter of a load, actually, as we're working with a couple kids so recoil reduction is helpful. But I'd get nervous dropping down to 15gr or less if this already isn't filling up the hull.

Either changing the wad or overshot card/s will tighten up things and stop the rattle. I do not load for 28 presently so cant comment on that particular wad/combo. Ballistic Products has always been a help when needed for me.

When I was shooting competitive skeet in the 1990's, I used to load Unique with the appropriate WAA wad in my 28 gauge skeet loads. More recently, I've done some with 20/28 more recently and moving to the 28 gauge AAHS hulls and the appropriate WAA wad.

Of course, in today's climate, this recommendation may be moot due the difficulty getting components.

I just followed Alliant's data.

I'd guess crimp issue but I'd like to see pics first. Do they all rattle, most, or just some?
