I talked to the owner of a gun store Friday and he said they are seeing a lot of trade ups lately. The folks who bought super cheapo first guns are bringing them in to trade for something better. They explain that because those guns were cheap to begin with they’re basically worthless now so they are better off keeping the cheap guns for the sock drawer and just buying a better one. From what he said mostly folks are understanding and are buying the better stuff.Patiently waiting for them to get back down below $50 per K……perhaps in 2024 ish.
I’m tempted to sell a couple pistols. I saw a used Ed Brown Special Forces at Cabela’s last week for $2999. (I paid $2024 for mine new.) If that’s indicative of current prices…I talked to the owner of a gun store Friday and he said they are seeing a lot of trade ups lately. 100% agreed! I don't think $100/K shipped + HazMat is the "new normal" for primers any more than I think $4.50/gal for regular unleaded is the "new normal" for gas or $10.99/lb is the "new normal" for chuck steak. But those are the current prices and if you want to drive, eat beef, or reload, you pay up or do without. At least we have supply and $100/K for primers in the supply chain is way better than $40/K for out-of-stock primers made of pure unobtanium.I’m tempted to sell a couple pistols. But as for primers, seems to be increasing activity on the components available thread and primers seem like they’re lasting longer. Prices are really high but if you need them, so what?
Well of course, in theory. I say in theory because there’s no way I’m selling any, at all, at most any price. $120 wouldn’t come close.I’d rather sell at $120/k than buy.

I have enough for a lifetime because I got caught in the 2012 shortage. I also complained then because I had to pay 40 dollars per 1000. I wish this didn’t happen ever 4 or 5 years.I have enough primers to get me threw 2023
3,000 small pistol
3,000 large pistol
13 cents a piece on primers plus bullets plated cheaper to buy factory
I never purchased factory ammo in 9mm but at 30 cent a round with free shipping I went for 500 rounds.
Yup. it's going to be a long wait for retail pricing of new stock to get down there...especially for product from Vista (they are way backed up on ammo orders)wholesale is over 50$ so you have a long waitPatiently waiting for them to get back down below $50 per K……perhaps in 2024 ish.
My Sportsmans, the last 3 times I was in there has SPP, SRP, 209s. So I got the 2 sleeve limit because I was there.I stopped by our local Sporstman's Warehouse the other day. As expected, there were no pistol or rifle primers but there was a generous supply of 209 shot shell primers. I bought the limit (2 sleeves per person per day) for use in reloading some 410 shot shells...

I remember that. Right after Reagan signed the FOPA idiocy. I almost quit reloading over it. Did stop when I changed jobs a year later and had to relocate. The more things change the more they stay the same.Like I said before I have more money than time left to shoot, so I am going to shoot. Just got two thousand from Brownells. We had high prices back in the 80's had to pay 12 dollars a thousand it was highway robbery.
Yep, it's gotten worse than I expected (wishful thinking?), and it's going to be awhile before primer prices settle down.Yup. it's going to be a long wait for retail pricing of new stock to get down there...especially for product from Vista (they are way backed up on ammo orders)
I was hoping to see $60, but it's looking that anything less than $70/k would be considered pretty good
Because I've not experienced previous issue is this event longer and more pronounced...Yep, it's gotten worse than I expected (wishful thinking?), and it's going to be awhile before primer prices settle down.
It's different because of the increase of new(er) gun owners who see today's prices as being the norm...so they are less hesitant to pay current market for ammo.Because I've not experienced previous issue is this event longer and more pronounced...
