I assume PTR has the same fluted chamber as HK91. Is there a problem reloading these cases. I recall seeing HK91 cases looked pretty marked up by flutes. Thanks for any input.
From what I have read PTR went in and purchased all of the tooling and machinery from a manufacturer that was licensed to manufacture H&K's in another country. So it would not be a clone but an actual H&K produced on their machinery and badged as a PTR but not licensed by H&K.
That information may not be 100% since it did come from the internet but that was my what I have read.
Having said that I have heard that both H&K and PTR rifles are hard on brass. If I were to venture a guess you could reload but case life will be shortened by all the work hardening of the brass. Fortunately .308 brass is plentiful and fairly inexpensive, comparatively.
One day I will find out, since a PTR91 is on my to do list.
I've reloaded cases fired in fluted .308 chambers.
After resizing, the marks from the fluting are still obvious - although somewhat reduced.
The reloaded ammo from fluted chambers works just fine.
The thing that is a bigger issue than the fluting-marks is what the CETME/HK/PTR guns do to the RIMS of the cases. Usually the rim is bent. This will make it difficult to get the spent case in the shellholder for your press. Fortunately, brass is soft. You can just hold the case in your hand, and smack the bent rim with a hammer. This will usually bend the rim back enough to get it in your shellholder.
I wouldn't reload a .308 case fired in a fluted chamber more than once or twice. All this "working" of the brass does not bode well for the integrity of the metal.
