Reminder - Give a gift of NRA membership for Christmas!

It's a great idea and a timely reminder.

The more NRA members there are, the more clout gun owners have with politicians and lawmakers. This year and next are particularly important because of the upcoming Presidential elections.

taurusowner, are you feeling okay? It took you seven whole minutes to jump in with that comment. I'd expected that it wouldn't take you more than a minute or two.

Be sure to bundle up when you go outdoors: the weather is so changeable now that you could be catching cold, which might make you even slower than seven minutes the next time someone mentions that it's a good idea to have as many members as possible in the NRA.

Take care of yourself. The NRA telephone solicitor who calls you every week must have a deep affection for you and would be upset if you sounded ill when you answered the phone. Please give him or her my regards? They've never called me.

NRA Gifts.

G'day everyone,.....

Funny I see this thread just now.
Just today I compleated a duty I had to pay for NRA memberships,....

Some months ago While listning to Cam Edwards on nranews.com some people wanted to join but due to circumstances thay could'nt at that time because of other commitments.

So a guy rang in and offered to pay their membership,....what a good idea I thought.
So I decided to do the same. I sent Cam an E-mail offering to send some money so he could give away some memberships.
Next thing I know he is interveiwing Tom Gresham (Guntalk) who recited a similar story of how he gave away some junior memberships,Cam then read out my E-mail offering to pay for some memberships which he received that day.
This was all a few months ago.
Yesterday I had a cheaque made out to the NRA,....
Today I posted it to Cam at Nranews.com Care Of the NRA-HQ.
$500.00 should get a couple of junior memberships right?
I think it will take about 4-5 days till he recieves it.

Should be fun,and be a good cause.

Aussie.

thread made me all warm and fuzzy. so I bought my friend an NRA membership / its the least I could do after getting him to spend mucho bucks for a model 1 6.8spc rifle and all the goodies to reload for it.
the man has shot 40 rounds of 6.8 through his rifle and is so far 1400 bucks in the hole. of course the pay back is coming soon,.

I just gave myself the gift this past thanksgiving. Remember, you should do something nice for yourself too! (Though I'm sure most people on here are already members)

And if you know anyone who is active-duty military, remind them that they get membership for free.

My tolerance for marketing calls, junk mail, and email offers for insurance is directly proportional to how important I think the cause is. Does the NRA use every marketing trick in the book? Yes. Do I want them to get all the revenue they can from every source they can? Also yes.

They must not like me either. I joined the NRA in 1983, paid up to life in the mid 90's and endowment a few years ago.

Never had a phone call. Maybe I made them mad.... or maybe people just make crap up eh?

The NRA sucks. They've been responsible for passing ALL the gun control legislation that has ever passed at the Federal level.

They are a bunch a Gucci-wearing, compromising nit wits.

I don't agree with everything the NRA does, but imagine the state of affairs if the NRA wasn't there right now.

Is that Dudley Brown?

Dudley works with Gun Owners of America on a daily basis through Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, which he operates, and attacks the NRA there.

Dudley also is Executive Director of the National Association for Gun Rights, which also works with Gun Owners of America on a daily basis, and attacks the NRA there.

Dudley also operates a new site dedicated to attacking the NRA: NRAwol.net, established in September 2007.

There's a nice photo of Dudley Brown and Larry Pratt smiling for the camera on his RRMGo_Org anti NRA web site but they're anonymous on the NRAwol.net web site.

PrattBrown.jpg

It's a wonder how Dudley has the time for all his anti-NRA work. Maybe that's why Thomas Paine volunteered to help Dudley out in attacking the NRA on The High Road.

My guess is that The High Road will be seeing a lot of these attacks on the NRA whenever it is mentioned favorably. Dudley has energy and Thomas Paine has been resting until he was resurrected in October when he joined The High Road to begin attacking the NRA and promoting organizations that attack it. And just today NRAwol joined The High Road and attacked the NRA.

I haven't seen the NRA use these tactics against Gun Owners of America or against GOA satellites. Wouldn't it be something if those organizations channeled all that energy into positive directions such as filing amici briefs in Heller v DC instead of undercutting the most important national organization of gun owners.

Posting the registrant of the website does not discredit it... unless you have any particular dirt on this guy?

Sounds like he is an active member of the no-compromise gun culture.

I respect that, and I have decided a couple months ago to deliberately let my NRA membership lapse. I'm fed up with their lying in regards to Heller/Parker and the compromise on HR2640.

So do you have any information actually of value in regards to Dudley Brown?

Nope, I don't dig dirt or throw it. Sorry to disappoint you.

Speaking only for myself--not multiple organizations--I hate to see the gun owners intentionally being split by organizations that represent what you and they call "the no-compromise gun culture." I'd bet the avowedly anti-gun forces like to see it though.

It's interesting to see that when the NRA didn't think that the approach being used in the D.C. case was wise it became a "liar." There must be lots of liars in The High Road and other gun forums because a lot or people in them are nervous about the outcome of the Supreme Court decision. But that's the "no compromise gun culture," I suppose: it doesn't tolerate dissent from its beliefs even from other gun owners. That's scarey.

You find those tactics acceptable. That's scarey too.

It is truly amazing the effort GOA and its henchmen put into battling the NRA. I wish they put that effort into actually doing something to further the pro-gun cause, not just screaming: No Compromise! No one is compromising with them anyways. They are not players in this game!

If you'd care to educate us in regards to the inherent evil of this man, here is his Wikipedia link:

Biography
Brown is a 1989 graduate of Colorado State University, and founded the CSU College Republicans. After Brown’s 1989 graduation, he served as Northern Colorado Director for U.S. Senator Bill Armstrong. In 1990, when Armstrong retired, Brown became the Media Director for the Colorado House of Representatives Republican Caucus. In 1992, Brown became the deputy campaign manager for the unsuccessful Republican congressional campaign of Brian Day in Colorado’s 2nd District.[1]

Political activities
Dudley Brown's lobbying activities have focused on influencing the Colorado Legislature, both in opposing new gun legislation such as that proposed in the wake of the Columbine High School massacre, and supporting specific legislation to relax concealed carry regulations. Brown often criticizes the National Rifle Association as being soft on gun control.

"We're not afraid to be called radicals on the gun issue," says Brown. "Because that's what we are."[2]

In the wake of Columbine, Colorado voters passed Amendment 22, a voter-initiated measure requiring background checks of gun purchases at gun shows, closing the so-called "gun show loophole".[3] Brown opposed the initiative, stating, "We're under assault right now. We feel like the Jews did in Nazi Germany."[4]

In 2002, a complaint was filed against Brown with the Colorado Secretary of State, alleging that a fund-raising letter Brown authored supporting the congressional campaign of Marilyn Musgrave violated state law. The Associated Press reported that Brown wrote a January 21, 2002 letter soliciting donations to Musgrave's congressional campaign. The complaint filed claimed, "As a registered lobbyist, Mr. Brown is clearly prohibited from fund-raising while the General Assembly is in session." Brown called the complaint "frivolous" and apparently a judge agreed, as the case was summarily dismissed.[5]

Brown is well known for involving his organization in bitter Republican primary elections at the state and local.[6][7]

Sure sounds like a leper to me...:scrutiny:

My accusation of "liar" for the NRA was their claiming ownership of the decision in the First Freedom magazine immediately after that successful decision, even though:
1. They attempted to hijack the case (unsuccessfully) by filing for a merge (I forget the official term, but basically they had a similar case and more lawyers and wanted to drive the show).
2. They sent Orrin Hatch to the Senate to introduce a bill nullifying the decision by repealing the law... If that were truly their stance then Hatch's bill should have been introduced every year since 1976.

The NRA sucks. They've been responsible for passing ALL the gun control legislation that has ever passed at the Federal level.

I think there's a difference between involved with ALL the gun control legislation at the Federal level and being responsible for it. Sure, they've given their seal of approval to some pieces of legislation that sucked for gun owners, but imagine how much more it would have sucked if they weren't there to fight it down to something more reasonable?

I like the no-compromise attitude of groups like GOA and JPFO, but we have to live in the real world. You can't get anything done in American politics without some sort of compromise, and while groups like GOA and JPFO have their place reminding everyone where the state of gun laws should be, what are they doing to retard the progress of anti-gun legislation? There's a reason the NRA is vilified by the anti-gun movement: the fear it. They're engaging the most pertinent threat first, in the same way a CCW holder would engage and assailant with a gun before and assailant with a NERF bat. The only time I hear anything about the GOA outside this forum is when some anti-gunner needs an extremist-sounding quote from a pro-gun advocate. The only time I hear of the JPFO is from other gun owners discussing their videos. The NRA is the only group out there actually making a tangible difference.

I don't really like the NRA either, but I don't have to like them to appreciate what they do, and that's why I'm a member.

Robert Hairless - The good part about these anti-NRA threads and comments is reading what new, well-reasoned, level-headed argument you bring out against them. I always enjoy reading your posts.

I value that comment. Thank you.

After reading some of these posts, I went to NRAwol.net for the first time. I saw a headline stating "NRA Board Member wants to ban assault weapons" so I clicked on it and viewed the video.

I found it interesting that this man did not say this. He simply stated he believed the military and police shoud be the ones with magazines above a 5 round capacity and not civilians. While I disagree with his statement, I would certainly not label him as pro AWB. This did not make a very good first impression. :uhoh:

And the difference between this and a citizen ban is?

There is a petition to recall Mr. Jackson. I am a life member of the NRA but I do not give them anything more than the $750 I paid for the life membership.I do get a ton of junk mail and unsolicited "educational" videos. I have gone through all the channels to get off these lists but within a couple of months, it is back in full force.
Instead of giving someone a lifetime supply of junk mail, give them a couple of boxes of ammo for their favorite gun, or a gift card.

Let's try to keep this thread heading in it's intended direction please! There are plenty of threads that have
dead_horse.gif
this topic to death.

I'll ask this, who have you given a gift of NRA membership to?

Back to the NRA membership

My wife & I are NRA Basic Pistol Instructors. The NRA is about the ONLY organization that does education on firearms matters.
The leadership has done some things that made me VERY unhappy but, without the NRA, I don't think we would have any gun rights in the is country at all!
As far as the weekly solicitaion...JUST SAY NO!! I don't get it...Just ask to be put on their "do not call list". That will take care of the phone calls.
When we sign up new members, we write "do not solicit" on the application and that takes care of the junk mail and calls.
NRA perfect...NO
NRA mostly effective...DEFINATELY
We should join SEVERAL orginizations...each one should have its own effective area.
