igpoobah gives some sage advice. Keep in mind the rules for the Activism forum are centered on:

1) Progress towards some identifiable goal (in this case giving NRA memberships as Christmas gifts)

2) Emphasis on doing something rather than debating why the suggested course of action should not be done, will never work, isn't effective, etc. - a little constructive criticism is fine (example: "I personally am disappointed with the NRA, so I would give gift memberships to SAF instead."); but sitting around and tearing down somebody else's idea for positive action is a lot easier than actually getting out and doing something yourself. One reason Activism was created is because we were concerned that people were mistaking tearing down other people's ideas for actual activism.

There are lots of good RKBA groups out there. How about instead of tearing them down, we just take the spirit of the idea offered and use it to advance all of them?

Yessiree Bob, we got us some real patriots on this board. It's nice to know that on the spectrum of what you're willing to do to stand up for your rights (somewhere between nothing and going to war), that we have folks here who are willing to draw the line at "I'll do anything for my rights short of tolerating junk mail!".

Yes, I have received solicitations for money from the NRA in the mail. I get one every 1-2 months. No phone calls, just a letter asking for a donation to the PVF or ILA. Yeah, the things I have to tolerate to protect my freedom!! Someone should give me a medal!!!

If every member of the NRA could get a friend to join, that would make the NRA almost 8 million strong. That's HUGE political power!

I give memberships as gifts every year. I also give them as birthday gifts.

Thomas Paine:

They are a bunch a Gucci-wearing, compromising nit wits.

If you don't mind some input, I like the newest version of the NRAwol slogan much better:

The NRA-ILA is a bunch of compromising, Gucci wearing wimps.

It has much better flow to it, and I'm rather intrigued by the image of some member of the House of Gucci wearing footwear named "Wimps."

Since NRAwol obviously is involved in marketing you might even want to try licensing Wimps to the Gucci shoe division as a brand name. If plastic footwear named "Crocs" could make it, there's no telling about the possibilities for "Wimps." Or it could fall on its prat, but that's the chance one takes.

By coincidence we just received "The Magnum," the latest NRA DVD release from The History Channel's Tales of the Gun series. We'll buy it, of course, because the series is splendid and we like it that the NRA benefits from the sale. That money goes in the direction we want.

The reason why I mention it here, though, is that this thread and the arrival of that DVD got me to thinking that these DVDs would make good gifts too. A friend of ours who is a .44 Magnum fan is sure to be thrilled by a gift of "The Magnum" in the NRA DVD series. Other friends would be interested in the "Rapid Firepower" NRA DVD, and so on through the series.

The NRA also published a reprint edition of Common Sense by Thomas Paine, our new member with the shoe fetish, but there are more attractive editions as potential gifts.

Have I ever given NRA as a gift?

Nope, no , never. However, MY wife just gave me a Dist. Life Member membership as a gift for Christmas this year.:)

I LOVE HER!
