I have recently acquired a Remington 1100 12ga that (when hand-cycled) will not sequentially chamber rounds from the magazine. The symptoms are as follows: when the bolt is retracted/pulled out of battery, a new shell will feed from the magazine onto the top of the carrier, but at that point the bolt remains locked back and the carrier will not release/rise to allow the bolt to go back into battery unless I manually push the carrier release latch.

I am presuming that the action should progress thru a feed cycle without locking the bolt to the rear (so long as a shell is available to be fed), but I'm really not very clear on what action/effect is responsible to 'trigger' the carrier to release.

Any help y'all can provide in understanding the dynamics of this would be greatly appreciated.

Somebody may correct me, but I think that is the way the Rem 1100 is supposed to work. You have to push the carrier release to feed the round when hand cycled.

Thanks for the reply.

I've just done what I should have done in the first place and searched the forum for past references to this 'problem' - I now consider myself much more 'schooled' on the feed issues and behaviors of the 1100... :)
