I just purchased a used Remington 1100 with a 28" barrel with a fixed mod choke. I'm going to keep it in its original configuration when I'm shooting clays but I'm also planning on joining in on some 3 gun competitions soon.

If I'm reading the USPSA shotgun rules correctly, it states that the magazine can only hold 8 shells in the standard division, correct? In that case, what length barrel should I get so it and the mag tube are flush (or at least very close) with each other?

About a 22" barrel is the same length as an eight round magazine, but the barrel can actually be shorter if you want. The competition master model had an eight round mag and a 22" barrel, if I remember correctly.

Check out the 3 gun forums at brianenos.com. Lots of threads there on modifying 1100s. The most common changes are fiber optic sights, eight round magazine, oversize bolt handle, recoil pad, and EZ loader.

When I added the EZ loader my reloading times dropped significantly. It's the only one of the items I listed you might want to let a gunsmith do, unless you are really handy.

If you are going to the expense of another barrel, get one with removable chokes. That can be handy.

Thank you very much. The only problem is the Remington website doesn't have any 22" barrels listed. Do you have any idea where I could get one?

That was my only problem with the gun. But hell, what can you expect from a 1100 for $300 that looks like at most a hundred shells have been shot through it?

Here's a write-up on modifying a Remington 1100 into the Competition Master.

I built my own version of the Competition Master. I call it my 'Competition Master Clone'.
I put a Speedfeed III stock and forend on my CM clone and saved some $$$. I picked up the stock and forend from CTD for less than $70.00

All of the part numbers and prices (which MAY have gone up) are in the article.

IHTH.

The Competition Master is no longer produced.

21" barrel with chokes: (you're right, don't see a 22", there is also a 24".)

You know, by the time you put all this stuff on there you could pretty much buy another shotgun. I have an 1100 I use for 3 gun, but the new Winchester SX 3 tactical version is pretty nice, and they seem reliable at matches. Or you could just buy another 1100 and fix it up.
