Remington 700P LTR 308 is long or short action?

I am trying to buy a one-piece picatinny style base for it. What does the MOA choice for the rail mean?

caliber? .223 and .308 are short

MOA cant can aid in long distance shots, particularly in scopes with limited adjusment.

308.

Thanks, that helps a lot!

If I don't expect to shoot longer than 400 yards, what should I get?

Any recommendation on which brand of rail? I have a 42mm scope with 30mm tube and a set of weaver low rings.

JDG already answered you. Get a 0 MOA rail. The 10 MOA, 20 MOA or 40 MOA are for extreme distance shooting 1,000 yards/meters +. You intend to shoot at closer range, and so you need 0 off-set in your rail. Regarding specific manufacturer, I use Ken Ferrell rails on my bolt actions. If you can, purchase the G-Force rail for added stability.

like with most things, it depends on how much you want to spend, but lots of companies make good rings/bases

I went with seekins precision, you can find them on liberty optics

you'll have a real nice rifle in the end, enjoy it!

if you don't mind, what is your price range for rings and bases?

leupold and badger make some as well

I have the rings already. So, don't really want to spend more than $60 for the base, if possible.

ah my apologies, I missed you had the rings already. take a look at leupolds one piece base, should be within your price range with quality. more than a few people have accurate rifles with them

edit to add: i say one piece, it's obviously your choice

Any time you can use a one piece, do so. It is a stronger platform and gives old Murphy less to work with (Murphy's Law).

And Pardon Geno, he sometimes forgets there are "po folks" out there that can't afford $130.00 for a scope base (I have 3 of them too Geno they rock) Leo's work fine. Good luck and Happy Holidays T.S. (Not going to call you by your ID)
