This is a brand new 870 Express Synthetic with a factory 2 round mag extension. When loading 2 3/4" shells, often the final (6th) shell will not load, because the entire 5 round stack is "stuck", meaning I can't push them into the tube any further, as if something is catching or binding. After taking it apart and studying it closely, I'm almost positive that the forward end of the follower is catching on the joint between the mag tube and the extension tube, as if the two don't fit together exactly perfect and therefore create a lip for the follower to snag on. The instructions that came with the mag extension indicate not to over tighten the extension tube, which I am not, but I don't think that matters.

Is this a common problem? I was considering upgrading the follower and spring to this:

Will this likely solve the problem, or is there a better solution?

If the follower is really catching on the junction between the mag tube and extension, putting a bevel on the follower with a little sand paper should fix the problem.

The 2 3/4" length on shotshells is the length after firing. The overall length before firing can vary a bit between shells. While the length difference between each shell is minor, if you were to line up 5 shells of brand "A", then five shells of brand "B" you could see a 1/4" overall difference.

That could explain why the 6th shell goes in easily sometimes, and not at all at other times.

Yes, I incorrectly installed it when I reassembled the gun. Without firmly tapping on the coupler prior to screwing the extension all the way in, the spring tends to get caught in the threads not allowing the tube to be completely tightened. Eventually the spring pops out of the threads, but there is still a lip at the junction of the tubes for the follower to potentially snag on.

Is it the stock follower. Is it metal or plastic. If its a wilson combat are you using the green hi-viz it came with? Bevel the edges.

Probably just a burr......mine did the same thing for the first few hundred rds. But, mine also doesn't like most cheap 2 3/4" or 3" shells (weak rims).
