Out and about yesterday. Naturally stopped by Dunham's Sports gun department just to check if anything new. Like a lot of places Dunham's ammo shelf's have been pretty bare for months. But when they do get some in it's at regular prices. They have not been charging the Rediculous prices the local gun shops have. Anyway, low and behold there was about 20 or so Remington 12ga. 2 3/4 , 00 buck on the shelf. First Remington ammo I've seen in a while. I have plenty buckshot and don't need anymore. Dunham's has been selling Wolf buckshot for $5.99, 5 pack. The Remington was $8.49 for the same. $2.50 difference.
So my question is. When all this crap is over and things get back to normal.
Are you going to support Remington and other American ammo makers even if their prices are higher? Or continue buying the imports that have shown up in the past year or so at lower prices?
Me? I will stick with Remington and other American makers. I did buy a couple boxes even though I have plenty.

All other things being equal (which they never are), or close to it, I like to buy American-made products. That said, it will come down to how much price difference we're talking about. A couple of bucks per box? I'll buy American. Triple the price? No, thank you. I'm hoping that the fact that I have 3 ammo plants within 50 miles of me works in my favor on this.

I generally don’t buy certain imports. It’s rare I buy Wolf or Brown Bear or Tula. However I do not own any Russian or other com bloc guns.

My imported ammo is generally limited to rimfire. Eley and Aguila.

I don’t shoot a lot of rounds of the types made by the likes of Norma or Lapua so those are also a non starter.

Wolf's rimfire is considered some of the best there is

I read recently it’s produced for them by eley At least the match stuff is, could just be internet lore.

I like to buy American when possible but I do really like Aguila’s Rimfire offerings. I don’t buy center fire ammo and if I do it’s for the brass so I tend to buy domestic.

I do not buy any rifle ammo as I rarely shoot them and have components from the 90s that still work
That said I DO shoot a lot of shotgun and a moderate amount of handgun and reload for those.

I'll buy American for self-defense pistols always. For AK's and SKS's I buy what's cheapest but works, AR's get American, but I will buy PMC bulk. .22 preferences are CCI and Remington GB. Hunting rounds, both Deer and Pheasant are Remingtons.

I will continue to buy the best quality ammo and components I can find no matter where it comes from . Same with vehicles, tools, etc . . No way will I suffer with mediocre home grown when I can have better quality . Lapua brass comes to mind .

My first choice would be Remington or similar domestic brands. However, I have no reservations about also supporting either S&B or Armscor.

I buy American primers and projectiles and will continue to do so.

Only factory ammo I tend to buy is premium JHP and that's nearly always Federal, with some Remington and Winchester.

So I guess yes.

I will buy quality products. For 100 YDS or less the best bullets for the price in 30-30 Remington in my rifles are their Cor-Lokt. As long as they do not cost 2X or more the cost of the others I will buy them. I buy domestic products as long as things are competitively priced.

We had 3 5 rd. boxes of Win. slugs in today at work, I left them for someone who needs them. I did get a box of Remington light game loads (12 ga. 1oz. 8's) and 3 325 rd. boxes of Fed. Auto Match. a couple days ago.

This thread sort of feels like some weird ammo purity test? So I will ramble to muddy the waters... :neener:

I don't buy much ammo, as I reload for an overwhelming number of the cartridges I use, especially the ones I use a lot. I like Remington brass, in some cartridges I like it better than even Starline, ie Remingtons's 38 Short Colt (and 38 Special) is better than Starline IMHO.

Remington's 38 S&W is also good brass and the bullets do not lead up the barrel on my Webley and Iver Johnson the way the Magtech and PPU does.

Remington rimfire is fine for plinking (especially if you avoid the bulk packs) though I usually buy CCI for plinking if I can find it. My 10/22 loves Wolf Match but I can't find it so I have been shooting a lot of SK for precision 22 shooting.

Try to find 30 Remington AR ammunition or brass that is not Remington! It will be interesting to see if the Vista owned version of Remington Ammunition continues to support that red-headed stepchild. At least one loading is still listed on the website so there is some hope.

I like Winchester shotshell ammo better than Remington but that is because I like reloading AA hulls better than anything Remington uses. But I always liked Remington Sluggers better than slugs from Winchester and Federal. Brenneke slugs are even better for my 410 though. Anything with Federal Flight control wad is A-OK in my book.

My AR's get a steady diet of Prvi Partizan (PPU) clone of M193. I prefer that over just about any other 223/556. It shoots better and cleaner than the Remington UMC 55gr.

Did I pass???

If I am out and about with my wife shopping or if I see a good deal online I generally buy it. Aside from what I load the ammunition pile is mostly Winchester and Remington and in rimfire Remington, Aguila, Wolf, Winchester and a few others. A few years ago I got an Email from Nosler for 400 rounds of 223 40 grain Ballistic Tip (ideal for my 1:12 twist bolt gun) for $100 including shipping and a nice ammo can. I jumped on it, should have bought two. Got an email for 200 rounds of 30-06 Seller and Bellot, 150 grain FMJ (great for a Garand) so I bought it. If a known name brand comes along at a good price I just buy it. Most of what I have is US manufacture but not like I planned it that way. I buy what I see as good ammunition at what I see as a good price. Again, I also load for everything I shoot so it has to be well priced before I buy anything commercial.

When my friend went out of business a few years back (bankrupt) he offered some ammo at cheap prices I couldn't pass up. I bought some wolf ammo in 7.62 X 39. Don't have a gun to shoot it, but can make a few bucks if I want to sell it. If I recall it cost me $1.50 for 20 round boxes. I don't know todays price, but I would think it should be higher. I still have some Remington .22RF I paid $7.77 a brick for LR. I also have one brick of Remington .22 shorts. Forgot what I paid, but have never paid over $10 a brick for any .22 RF ammo. I bought a 100 pack of Aguila at Walmart long ago and likes their ammo. Things is now I have a good supply of ammo, but have been selling off my guns.

Yeah, it's one of the few calibers I've seen a lot of locally and online, last I saw it was $13.99/20 locally.

Small profit if you sell it :)

Nosler was having all kinds of good deals for a couple years leading up to the mess. I was seeing the deals so often I just kept waiting for the next one and didn't take advantage of the 200rd 77gr OTM match grade .223 ammo + ammo can deal they had going all the time for like $80. ::::facepalm:::::(.

I avoided remi gton 9mm ammo as much as possible for years when there was enough availability I had the option to be picky. I had a few problems with feeding rem ammo in a ruger P95 I had but it's possible it wasn't the ammo. I have bought piles of Remington ammo since, rimfire too and have not had any issues with it. The core lok't line of ammo seems a lil outdated but I know they have quite a following and quite a number of folks out there that won't use anything else.

I'll buy mostly American made ammo. I've never bought Mexican Aquila and never will. I will, however, make an exception with 22LR ammo. I shoot SK, RWS, and Norma; all German because it is simply superior to American products at the mid-price level. I will buy plenty of plinking ammo that is MIA (made in America), but when I neede consistent accuracy from my .22s, German products are better.

Why no Mexican ammo then? Aquila offers some interesting and unique ammunition for 22LR. The Colibri and Super Colibri as great quiet practice round for short range and even indoor environments. The SSS round is a great sub-sonic suppressed round that delivers some of the highest energy subsonic ammo available on the market for 22LR.

And if you have Remington 5mm your only option (short of center fire conversion) is Aguila/Centurion Ammo in Mexico.
