I picked up a no.1 today, it's ugly but it could be fun. this gun is partly finished. the stock was made by the old owner not the best but it works for now. it has a green mountain 458/14 blank on it, i think it's 24'' or 25''.the firing pin as broken and repaired, but it was to long. i just fixed that. it has the rotary extractor, it fits the 45 case perfect so no work is needed there.
the action is missing one screw on the top left of the action, think it's something for the extractor? it looks like it was removed for when the barrel was added. one other thing is there is a threaded hole that's under the barrel shank inside the front of the action, what goes there and what is it for.
the barrel is just raw but i think i will just crown it and clean it up, the chamber looks good. i could throw it on my dads lathe and thin it up some, but leaving it for now.
id like to get a year on this action it has the firing pin retractor, i think they added that later for the BP actions it has the large pin hole to. this action has the extra screw below the pivot pins on the left side. and this has the trigger guard sling loop. on the top rear tang it says, remingtons ilion ny usa pat 1864 and 1866. # 13539
gun came with 25 new starline 2.6, they are 2.6 long so there not the BA 110 brass, 45-100 brass will be fine. the hammer was relieved so they feed fine. .
there are no sight the barrel it was drilled for a weaver scope mount i took off. depending on what i do to the barrel will decide what i do for sights.
i don't have very much in this project, i will be getting a 1867 rolling block to. think its a swede maybe a husqvarna. have to see what it is. i figured at worst i pull the barrel and wood and i have a good action to build off. thanks any info will help and share you rolling blocks if you got them.troy.
