What you are sharing is lawyer talk from the plaintiff's. If we talk about ethics how about Brother Walker working for Remington many years after this supposed letter. I spoke with him personally years after the letter on a potential law suit. At that time Remington was good at handling these claims. The destroyed gun, a 742, was the result of dangerous reloads. When we were setting up to be a warranty station for Remington safety was a big issue. The company was very conscious of safety concerns at that time. Here, the times that Remington's failed it had to do with Bubba and/or rotten maintenance.

My 1980 700 BDL and my later Model 7 have been perfect with zero issues; nice and crisp, no creep or take-up. Think I'll leave well enough alone

I bought a new Rem 700 VLS .243 about 8-10 years ago. Set it up for long distance prairie dogs and shot it some. I have since learned there are many other better options and have moved on, so it wasn't shot much. My buddy doesn't have a deer rifle so he used it for a couple of years. Two years ago we were in the blind when he slid the rifle off safety and "boom" a new hole was shot thru the blind wall. Took the gun to a smith and he checked it out, but could find nothing wrong with it. Went on to say that many things can contribute to trigger/safety malfunction My friend is a veteran shooter and is certain he did nothing wrong. Not being sure what happened, it now has a new Timney trigger. I'll never take a chance on something like that. Makes me wonder though about the used Rem 700 BDL .270 I bought 3 years ago.

I'm sending mine in for repair. Late 80s build 30-06 that my dad bought me new when I was a kid and it's never had an issue. I rarely shoot it at anything that isn't warm and furry so it probably has fewer rounds through it than your average gun of that vintage. My dad has a model 7 in 7mm-08 that's not quite 20 years old that's also going in to have the trigger replaced. Also no issues with it but better safe than sorry.
