Hi folks,

Hey, I'm shipping a N Frame S&W and a Semi Auto pistol as well, today. Fed Ex says they want the guns two pieces.

First of all, do you really have to take the cylinder off a revolver to ship it? I did not specifically mention revolver, we were talking slides, etc. But I don't want a problem to arise.

What's the best way to remove it. I don't have the gun with me right now to look at (I'm at work) and I have never taken the thing off before.

Thanks!

On the left-hand side above the front of the trigger guard there is a small screw. Using a a screwdrive that fits, back out that screw.

Unlatch the cylinder, and with it open, wiggle it forward. The cylinder and yoke (the hinge the cylinder swings out on) will come off as a sub-assembly. Once the cylinder is off, the yoke can be pulled forward and off of the cylinder.

Put the screw back, but don't tighten it.

New FedEx policy?

Hmmm...I shipped a K-Frame revolver with FedEx last year and they did not ask for it to be broken down, only unloaded. Wonder if the FedEx policy has changed or if that's a local requirement?

I shipped my revolver back to S&W in one piece with UPS. If they do require the revolver to be in two pieces, screw 'em and ship with their competition.

I just took the grips off instead. Heck, the way I see it that's three peices, even better.

(I think it depends on what person you happen to get on the phone).

Two pieces? That's the dopiest thing yet. Must be a policy of that particular branch? I FedEx'ed a revolver about two months ago with no problem.

IIRC they aren't looking for two pieces....they are looking for inoperable. They basically want it so if one of their workers opened the box, the gun couldn't go bang if there was a bullet in it. I know how easy many guns are to put together, and I think their policy is stupid, but that is what they are looking for.

The grips off would not comply with that policy.
