After hearing and reading about Renaissance wax for the last 4 or 5 years I finally decided to get a jar - $19 from Amazon. My question is on exactly how to use it? I want to use it on various handguns but are they supposed to be oiled, clean and dry with Brake Clean first? I know how to apply and buff but not sure about prep. Thanks,

You don't want any oil on the surfaces you will apply the Ren wax.

Use a minimal amount of wax. You can take a little bit of wax, warm it a little bit using your fingers, and apply in a circular motion. Let dry for a bit, wipe off, then buff.

Again, use VERY little wax. I use it all the time, I have had my jug for probably 20 years and it is still half full.

Ren Wax dries to a hard finish that doesn't leave fingerprints. An absolute must for collectible firearms.

What most museums use to protect valuable artifacts - as mentioned use a LITTLE, it really does not take much. My wife introduced me to it as she makes jewelry. Stuff is great

I'd clean it with regular solvents. Remove all dirt and oils. Then dry thoroughly. Afterward apply a bit of Renaissance Wax and buff it in. You'll be good for years.

Wiki Shoe "Polish" (neutral) actually an inexpensive source of microcrystalline wax with no dye or abrasives. Just make sure you use neutral. I've been using it for years.

Is this Renaissance Wax only for guns in long term storage or can it be used for regular shooters also.

Thanks, Dan
