I have a couple of old shotguns I am trying to research, determine value, year of manufacture, etc. One is a Winchester Model 12 and the other is a Remington Model 11 with military markings. Does anyone know of a good website that would assist in determining info on old Winchester and Remington shotguns?

You can Google "Winchester Model 12" and find several sites listing them for sale and providing information on values. The problem is that there are so many variations of the Model 12, some quite high in value. The ordinary 12 gauge Model 12, in only so-so condition, will go for $300-400; a 28 gauge, in top condition, can go over $6000 and that is without any special work.

Military marked shotguns are another problem, because so many are fake. I will defer to someone more knowledgeable on that one, but give the same advice about using Google.

If you would like more info from the folks on this site, please provide some good pictures of the guns.

Before I start, let me say I have worked is one of the largest firearm retailers in the south and have seen and worked on many guns. The problem is with military markings it is true that there are a few to say the least out there that are fakes. On either gun if you know and can prove any history on it pictures paper work, it will add value. Books will give you an idea of what they may be worth but the truth is it comes down to what someone will pay. For example I have seen a couple of Singer 1911's sell for 2x and 5x the book because people wanted them and couldn't find them, yet I have seen Auto 5's go just dirt cheap because of so many in stock at one time. I have found that 9 out of 10 times people set the price not books but like I said it is a good way to get a round about idea of what you have but don't run to a gun show or a dealer and expect to get it. I have had a lot of friends get very disappointed. Get online search your markings, go to your local book store and they will probably have a blue book of guns, then you can look for free.
