Yes it is. I wish Novak, Champion, and others would take note of that.

I know I'll be replacing the sights on my SFC and SF at some point with Heinie straight eight ledge sights or 10-8 Performance. Too bad Mr. Brown doesn't use either of those as standard issue. The 10-8 rear sight with a tritium front sight is a good combination. They come standard on the Molon Labe and that's what will be on my Light Rail.

Gunsite update:

At around 1000 trouble free rounds I took this to the Gunsite 1911 Commemorative class last week.

Fired roughly 1150 rounds in a week with only basic field stripping, wipe down, oiling done at night.

Zero malfunctions other than 1 FTF when a wad of medical tape on my hand wrapped around the safety during a draw and a couple of poor draws where I failed to get on the grip safety, so no fault of the gun. The Ed Brown fit and dehorning really paid off here. I saw many guys with hands that looked like they had been through a meat grinder from beavertail misalignment, sharp edges on safeties, checkering, etc. I only had one friction blister from where the web of my hand between thumb and finger rubbed up and down flicking the safety on and off. This is where an extended safety might have come in handy. The narrow safety on this Special Forces makes me keep the thumb in very close. I won't be changing the safety for daily use, but if I take another high round count class I would temporarily install a nice wide safety.

After a week of being in a plastic Bladetech holster the finish has a very slight wear right on the front forward edges of the slide, about where you'd expect after hundreds of trips in and out of a plastic holster. The Tucker leather holster was abandoned early on, more on that in the Gunsite review.

I was very glad to have this gun at Gunsite. I watched guys on the firing line fight with their guns all week in this 1911 only class, all kinds of malfunctions from all kinds of manufacturers. Was very happy not to have to put into use any of the failure drill training.

Used only the Chip McCormick 8 round Power Mags, also worked 100%.

Fired about 500 rounds of Blazer, 600 rounds of Remington 230gr FMJ, and 50 rounds of Remington frangibles. All fed fine and shot at about the same POI.

In depth reviews of Gunsite coming, but the Ed Brown continues to just work.

Another update, probably the last. Just passed 3500 rounds through this gun, no failures of any kind.

Replaced the recoil and firing pin spring just because.

I am carrying it daily now. Starting to see holster wear on the slide in a few spots. This "Gen 3" coating Brown uses seems to be holding up pretty well, certainly better than standard bluing.

Not much else to say, I believe this one will run forever at this point. If I remember, I'll post at 10,000 rounds through and see what we've got then.

Good update. Any plans to change the grips?

As for the Gen III coating, at least you have stainless steel under it so corrosion won't be a major concern.

Well I've had several stocks on it since I got it.

I took off the factory stocks and installed some VZ G10's initially. Liked them until I got to Gunsite where the aggressive pattern was just too much firing 200+ rounds a day, blister city, so I bought a set of the Gunsite monogrammed "fat" smooth stocks and finished the class with those just because that's all they had in the store. I've gone back now to the factory stocks but will probably settle on a set of smooth sided cocobolo's once I find some I like; Esmerelda or someone like that.

Carrying a 1911 OWB I prefer smooth so they don't stick to a shirt or whatever but honestly the factory ones are pretty good.

Esmerelda had exactly what I wanted, mailman just dropped off a box.

I'm not a huge fan of wood grips or stocks on firearms (rifles or handguns), but if I were to choose some for my Ed Browns, those would certainly be in the running. They look WAY better than the Cocobolo grips that Ed Brown uses. The dark grain really works with the Gen III coating.

Great write up. I don't own one, but the Special Forces is my favorite in the Brown line-up, regardless of price.

Is the Gunsite review here on THR? Do you have a link?
