Okay, about every 6 months to a year, I start getting interested in getting an FN SLP. Then I read the scant reviews and feedback I can find and pass.

I like the concept. I like the MK I configuration with the rifle sights, instead of the ghost ring. I would rather have an 18" bbl instead of 22", but it's not a show-stopper.

Does anyone have recent experience with one? Do they hold up? Are they as reliable as an 870? (ahem...)

Do they have any glaring faults. Do they cut your thumb loading them? Blah, blah, blah...

Has FN made any running changes/improvements to the design? Are there any new variations coming out?

Thanks.

I think I've only seen good reviews. I wrote a mini-review here a few months ago. Mine needed a little break-in to run reliably with light loads, but has run like a top since. It is very accurate. The recoil is very manageable even for extended use. Nothing not to like, as far as I'm concerned.

BTW, the SLP came slathered in very thick goo (thinking of your AL391 thread). DEFINITELY clean this one out before shooting! ;)

the FN SLP is an excellent shotgun and i'm glad i picked it over the Bennelli

i was surprised when i first tried it with buckshot and slugs. i switched to the lighter piston and it has been reliable ever since.

i did have to re-tighten the rail on my SLP...i think the 3" magnums might have loosened it (it was the only round i had that would run the heavy piston)

i prefer the SLP with the ghostring sights over the rifle sights on the Mk-1...i have both...because i don't have to drop my head as much to get a sight picture. i have an EOTech on the Mk-1

the Mk-1 is cheaper than the regular SLP and FN is now offering different barrel lenghts.

9mm,

Is the rail attached with screws?

I looked at the FN site and they don't list any other barrel lengths. Where did you find these other lengths?

Thanks.

FN is also coming out with a picatinny accessory rail as well as a adjustable pistol grip stock.

9mm,

Thanks, but I was hoping they had an 18" version of the MK I. I don't see that option on their site.

Thanks again.

i saw that, the Tri-Rail extension is pretty cool looking

hoping they had an 18" version of the MK I

sorry ...i think most of the demand had been for a longer barrel to accomadate larger mag capacity

why don't you like the ghost ring setup...it's really very handy

Just get a Benelli M4 and be done with it. I went thru this decision a few months ago and held them both side by side and the M4 was superior.

Be done with what? Your decision?

The M4 is also somewhere between 1.5x and 2x the cost of the SLP, depending on what prices you find.

Speaking of prices, the only "budget" choice in a similar autoloader is the Mossberg. An 11-87 equipped like the SLP is going to cost $900 or so and it's just not as good a shotgun.
