Revolvers and OWB holsters

I recently did some hiking and camping with my 3" GP100 and carried it in an Uncle Mike's Side Kick hip holster. I have never carried a revolver in an OWB holster and felt that compared to a pistol in the exact same style of holster it felt a little top heavy because of the grip sticking up and somewhat wobbly, for lack of a better term.

I really like this gun for outdoor activities and wonder if any of you have suggestions as to the style/brand of holster that would keep it feeling more steady. I was wearing a fairly wide leather belt that I have always used when I carried my Glock 23 but perhaps with the added weight and design I need something else.

I would stay away from Uncle Mikes when OWB carrying unless you want something really cheap for out in the forest every here and there. I love to carry my Glock 22 OWB in a leather holster for outdoor activities. The only time I would use nylon is if I were to IWB CC for comfort even though I can't because I'm too young.

I would recommend a good all leather holster. I just picked up a Desantis thumb break belt holster for a 5" N frame. So far so good, though it was a real pain getting that thumb break closed the first time!

I absolutely love my 4" N-frame PMK holster from Milt Sparks. Even with the weight of my big N-frame's, it is one of the most comfortable holsters I've ever owned. I wear it a lot around the house.

Unfortunately, it's a low riding holster; so unless I'm wearing a long-tailed shirt (untucked) I don't wear it out. It's not a problem if you're standing/shopping, but sitting it will pop under.

I love Milt Sparks for IWB holsters and concealed carry. All buy one ofl my OWB holsters are intended for open carry and most came from El Paso Saddlery. The exception is a very old Bianchi Modle 5 for my j-frames.

Cheap nylon holsters made guns harder to carry. The heavier the gun, the worse it is.

Stick with well designed leather holsters from the big names in gun holsters, along with buying a good belt. The best holster in the world won't work worth a darn on a $5 flimsy belt.

I absolutely love my 4" N-frame PMK holster from Milt Sparks.

+1 to the PMK.

I have one for a 3" N-frame and my 242. It is perfect for this size revolver.
