Rifle feedback

Depends on your taste. It shouldered well andcwas balanced good but I didn’t fall in love with it. Reports I’ve seen showed great accuracy

For deer hunting get something not too heavy with acceptable accuracy. If it’s just a hunting rifle then no reason to go all out. If you plan on going long or bench shooting then I’d start changing parameters

This rifle is for long-distance target shooting where the rifle is primarily shot from a stable platform - bench or bag rested. I can't really see it as a hunting rifle. It's pretty heavy, not particularly maneuverable, nor easily packed through the brush to your stand or your blind.

Yeah this is for hunting deer so I don’t know if this is worth it
Depends if YOU want it or not. For "most" people a cheap bolt action or single shot is all they really need to take deer and most other things. Going beyond that is personal preference and how much using a specific piece of equipment adds to our enjoyment of the process.
rifle appears to be a good general purpose gun and offers a lot of adaptability, whether that is worth the cost, is up to each of us to decide.

While cheap rifles work, I think they detract from the hunting experience.

500 and up should get something one might have a bit of pride in.

With careful shopping of course.

Todays market....i saw a clean standard 1100 at a gunshop, used but very clean. A reg 12 w fixed VR bbl......for 800.

A heavy rifle is not the way to go for deer hunting. Years ago I used my heavy barreled varmint rifle for deer season. I sold my old rifle and didn’t get a new rifle in time. Worst deer season ever! There’s a lot of light weight hunting rifles out there, and there accurate. Go slim, trim and enjoy.

Sako makes great great rifles. That said, I would probably find a used A7 if I was going to buy a Sako for most of the hunting I do. If you aren’t tied to the Sako brand anything from Tikka, Remington, Ruger or Savage would serve your needs for less money. Personally, I started buying Ruger No. 1s last year and haven’t deer hunted with anything else since.

I spent about that amount for my wife's rifle and have no regrets. It is very accurate, light, weatherproof, durable and fits her perfectly. I feel good knowing it'll last her until way past her hunting days and she'll be able to pass it on down now matter what she does to it.
I bought a similar rifle for myself after shooting hers. I picked mine up used for a good bit less though.
I have a few cheaper guns that will do the job. I guess that's like everything though, people pay big money for BMWs when that geo metro will get you to the same place

Good advice here. Go shopping and check a bunch out. Few years back i was in the market for a synthetic stock, stainless barrel, short action gun. Started putting a few up to my shoulder. Guess what, brought home a Ruger Hawkeye, wood stock, flat finished blued barrel in a short action. Didn’t expect that to happen but it fit so nice. Still very happy with it and have no plans to replace it. Who knows what you might find.

I'd look hard at a Tikka t3 lightweight. It's got a sako barrel, made in the sako factory, a great reputation, and it's lightweight. As a bonus, it's cheaper. But do whatever makes you happy.
You bet!! If the OP's got the bucks to buy a Sako S20 he could get almost any Tikka T3 for a whole lot less. I'd go for the Roughtech myself. I've handled one in the store and I think with a sling and a scope it would make an awesome hunting rifle.

If I were in the market right now and couldn't find a nice used 700 BDL chambered in the cartridge I wanted, I'd decide between the Tikka T3 and the Mossberg Patriot, depending on budget and availability.

Like I said before, I like my current deer rifle. If I was in the market for a new one it would be the Tikka T3. On the varmint rifle future, I was thinking of getting rid of my heavy rifle and replacing it with a Tikka in a smaller caliber. The ones I’ve shot were outstanding!

Do you want a "factory new" rifle, or a "rifle new to me"? If I had $1600 for a hunting rifle, I'd be haunting the pawn shops and local guns stores for an old but professionally done sporter made from a Mauser or Springfield action. But that's just me. Kind of like Hookeye said, but opposite, a nice rifle adds to the hunting experience.

I don't disagree, but sometimes I'll take my 1861 Springfield out for a day, and have a great day. 10+ pounds. But yeah, wouldn't want to hunt with it every day. But if I had to I would prefer it to any modern rifle that weighed as much. On the other hand, if you used it all season, didn't you get used to the extra weight? Guess not!! :)

Weight is subjective. It has pros and cons. My rifle is around 13 pounds and I have carried across close to 800 acres in a single hunt. It gets a little heavy and I switch shoulders or arms but not anything I can’t handle all day. Im also pretty healthy at 6’4 275. I have friends who don’t like carrying their 7 or 8 pound rifles all day. I don’t think about it much. It’s just my tool that I like that I use and I have never shot another 300 win mag that’s as easy on you as mine

Your making me think (not good). I could put it on a diet with a different scope and stock and like it a lot more.
