I recently purchased a Leupold VX-2 scope for my Savage 10FP in .308. It is a 3x9x40 scope. Problem is this: when I look through the scope at a target, say, 50 yards away, the reticle is crisp and clear but the target behind the center of the reticle is blurred out. The rest of the glass is clear. For example, when aiming, I see the reticle clearly but the bullseye is very blurry. After firing, I shift the scope around, looking through the bottom or top of the scope and it is clear and I can see the bullseye clearly. Is this supposed to be this way? When I received the scope, UPS had severly dented one side of the box and the Leupold box inside was slightly dented. However, the scope appeared fine. I was wondering if the impact could have created a problem?

Prof,
Most non-AO scopes will be blurry at short ranges. Check it at 100 yd & out. Mostly they're factory set to 150 yd. as a compromise.
If the problem persists, send it to Leupold, yhey'll make it good.:D

Swifter: Thanks, that makes me feel better. I'll try it at 100 and 200 yards next time. Hardcore, isn't the ocular focus to get the reticle focused? I followed the directions in the manual to do that and the reticle is crisp and clear. Did I do something wrong? Thanks to both of you!
