The owners of the Rigby brand are to finish and stock 98 Mauser based magnum actions for two new Big Game models.

Kind of cool even with the stiff starting price of $13,500, but no .275 Rigby model. I think that's a big mistake in that it would be a great European ( deer and boar) as well as NA caliber reviving the most famous rifle from the pre WWI Rigby - Mauser partnership. A lighter rifle like that would deliver volume albeit at lower margins.

I don't know the industry well enough. Is there enough volume in .375 H&H, 416 Rigby and .450 Rigby, even with the $11,000 margins, to make this a going venture? Elephant hunting is closed in Botswana for at least a few years. Volume's not going up anywhere else. Do people just buy these guns for collections? I can't see a market for more than 15 - 20 guns a year in these calibers/price points. How is that viable as a business model? I can understand it if there is an off-the-rack volume business driven by these semi-bespoke guns but not as a stand alone model. Your thoughts?
