Just me and a couple of tube fed 22 rifles. This will probably be the most common thing I take for a while. I don’t have any loads to develop and the reloading room is rearranged for repairs. Primers are still tough to come by though powder and projectiles are easier. Given current prices I plan to shoot more 22 at relatively long distances more than in the past.

I plan to use my Henry H001 for silhouette competition in the new year and figured I’d better start practicing. I ran about 40 rounds through it and confirmed I need more practice. In a 10 shot string I’ll show two groups of 4, 5, or 6. I’m sure it’s just an aiming point issue with the factory sights. Either practice or glasses will resolve it. I’m still cataloging the different points of impact with the different ammo types over the three notch settings of the rear sight.

The other rifle was a 1970s era Marlin 60 with the 22” barrel and 17 round magazine. This particular rifle loves CCI Standard Velocity ammo. I rezeroed it for 100 yards from 50 yards with the Nikon Rimfire scope it carries now. With that ammo, it’s my 2nd or third most accurate rifle depending on the day. The first 3 shot group from 50 yards was a nice cloverleaf about 2” from the desired point. After some corrections and a conversation with myself about proper crosshair alignment, it managed a 5 shot group mostly in the red of an 8” dirty bird target. The shots were touching but in a line. I have some more fine tuning to do but it was quite windy today and I’ll need to do some fine tuning in a calmer day, especially if I want to reach 200 yards as I originally planned when scoping this rifle.

My H001 is fun to shoot, but I think I would need to add a peep sight to it to compete at silhouette. For whatever reason the Henry sights just don’t seem as crisp to my eyes as some of the other guns I have and I don’t think I can hit those little critters consistently.:(

Do your rules allow for peep sights, like the Skinner sights, or is it stock only?

Whatever the rules are, silhouette shooting is fun. Hopefully you will be out there knocking them over soon .

Stay safe.

Yes peep sights are allowed. I shout the first one with Tech Sights on a Marlin 60. I’m going to practice some more but it may end up with some Skinner or Williams peep sights and a Skinner front Patridge blade.

Ironically Federal Automatch seems the best load from the Henry. It shoots just at POA at 50 yards in the lowest notch of the sights. I’m pretty sore that grouping issue is a shooter problem that hopefully some practice and sight picture focus will solve. I also shoot it off my elbows at the bench not from a rest.

I'm definitely going to do more. I've been running slow fire practice with my 22 pistol, but I'll add rifles and 50 and 100 yard small bore targets as well. I'm tempted to take the red dot sight off my 22 so it better approximates my service pistols and their factory sights. With my astigmatism, I'm not sure the red dot helps that much anyway.

Shot .22s again yesterday, here's Emily shooting the 150 yard steel. She's a good shot.

On my last trip to the indoor range I shot my HK Mp5 22lr pistol (loves mini mags) and my Valquartsen Scorpion. I shot some 9mm too!

Great fun! Ben stocking up on Mini Mags recently cause the Mp5 22 loves hotter ammo.

In terms of being cost conscious in these times, I've set up a rudimentary range in my backyard for shooting air guns (pellet and BBs). I don't want to be Ralphie, especially at Christmas time, so safety glasses are always worn. ;)

Yeah. I’ve got a really nice Browning Buckmark and a CZ 453 that weren’t used much last summer. And zero excuses as the range is on my land right beside my house and I’ve got somewhere between 12-15,000 rounds on hand

I might break out the 22 Shorts and 22 CB Shorts for the Henry and see how they work at 25 yards. I think they're meant for rifles in the CB form. I can watch them go down range out of my Heritage revolver, and don't even need the proper light to see them.

I traded my Henry 22 for a 10/22. I might be back in the market for another Henry. I am a big fan of CZ though so maybe I could pick up a bolt action as a trainer for my 557.

For CZ owners - is the cz 457 trigger similar to their center fire rifles?

.22LR is boss for me.
Unfortunately Sunday was a disaster for me:

1. The red-dot on one rifle died after one shot and the spare battery was flat also
2. The second rifle failed after 3 shots (snapped firing pin)
3. When I tried my Scholar flashlight pen to look at the bolt face, it died after 1 second of illumination. Dead battery
4. A prototype muzzle device I was planning to test, failed for no obvious reason

After all that, it started raining too. I guess, in order for you guys to have a good time I had to experience the opposite!

Nothing wrong with a nice relaxing day of shooting rimfire guns. I actually have shot more rimfire than anything else since the plandemic started. It has been easier to find rimfire ammo than it has been to find centerfire ammo or reloading components.

I have an AR22 and my Savage MkII setup for precision long range shooting that are always fun to take out to 100 yards and farther. I also enjoy shooting my AR22 pistol, S&W 22A and Kel-Tec CP33 out to 100 yards too. It is really fun to watch people's faces when they are waiting for me to stop to reload the CP33 and I just keep on shooting.
