So I’m considering what to get for a Ruger 22/45 .22LR. I’m thinking about the Gemtech GM-22 or the Sig Sauer SRD22X. Does anybody have any experience with these? Other suppressor options are welcome. Thanks in advance!

I have discussed this at length with my buddy at the LGS.. and we both agree it is useless and a basic waste of money to supress a .22 pistol, rifle used for hunting is a different story, as you want to be as quiet as can be, and a supressed rifle in any caliber for hunting acheaves this.

My father used a newer S&W M&P22 compact with a compensator for rapid target shooting. the compensator kept the little rise it did have to a near o, aiding in quicker target aquisition.

Whats your primary use for the firearm?

I have the dead air mask and use it on a ruger charger and s&w 422. Works quite well the action cycling is loudest sound.

@MachIVshooter makes some darned nice cans and I shamelessly plug his product at every opportunity. I have one of his Ocelot rimfire cans with another Ocelot Micro on the way. IMO he is at least equal to any manufacturer out there.

Below is the Micro next to my flashlight for comparison. It's 3.5 inches long.

Backyard practice without the neighbors bugging me.

here we are not allowed to shoot on our lands unless your in a city specified "rural" area. and I am not. .22 lr is a little pop, I "personally" cant justify a silencer on a .22lr pidtol.

but thats just MO...

Silencerco Sparrow or Spectre II. I have the Spectre II, it is a great silencer.

Let me guess you and your buddy haven't shot a 22 cal suppressed pistol?

Suppressing 22's is the best place to start with suppressors in my opinion. It is so much more enjoyable shooting pistols, bolt actions, semi auto's suppressed. Especially when training young kids on the basics with no ear protection needed. Especially, when one can get a 22 suppressor for $400-500 including tax stamp.

Yeah all the above quite "useless."

To the OP, whatever you do, make sure the internals (the baffles, monocore, etc) are stainless or titanium would be my recommendation. I will not buy another 22 suppressor that is not stainless or titanium, as the the aluminum internals cannot be cleaned with a lot of cleaners that work great like stainless and titanium can.

Apparently you missed this part of my post!!

Using subsonic ammo in a suppressed 22 bolt action will be quieter than most air rifles.

Oh I know it's your opinion. And that's fine, its just a wrong opinion.

Useless Definition:
adjective
  1. Being or having no beneficial use; ineffective: synonym: futile.
  2. Having no purpose or reason; pointless; to no avail.
  3. Incapable of acting or functioning effectively; ineffectual or inept.

Mine is an Innovative Arms Apex. It’s an aluminum can which means .22 LR only but I don’t have any other Rimfires.

Take a look at Rugged Suppressors’ products. Many are modular which adds versatility.

In MO... nothing in.22lr requires ear protection or silencers... I have shot a silenced .22lr rifle and pistol. it's just not necessary IMO!!!

I guess I value the hearing ability of myself, family and friends more than you, because shooting a 22lr out of a pistol is definitely damaging hearing with prolonged usage.

I have no experience with either of those two suppressors. Let me say, though, that a suppressed 22/45 is a TON fun! I have a Dead Air Mask on mine.

Coming from an owner of a GM22, don't buy it. They are hard to clean and if one goes too long between cleanings they are all but impossible to get apart. The aluminum monocore does you no favors (other than being very light) when needing to maintain the suppressor.

Personally, I would be looking hard at the Dead Air Mask or the Silencerco Sparrow. Both of those are great suppressors.

I like my Dead Air Mask, the only pistol I've shot it on is a Walther/Colt 1911-22. Very quiet. The first time out on a CZ457A, it was loud, in winter the speed of sound is low enough that my 1090 ammo was super sonic. My DAM looks easy to clean, my round count is still low, and is rated up to .22 hornet.

My baffles are Ti and can be cleaned in a rock polisher with steel pins. I'd read up on how easy to clean each suppressor is. I'm sure they are all quiet.

Neither.
Gemtech is well on its way to obscurity thanks to S&W. Smith is doing to Gemtech what Remington did to the original AAC.
Sig lost its silencer mojo when Kevin Brittingham and crew left to form Q.
More proof that gun companies shouldn't make or sell silencers.

Seriously?
A .22 pistol may be the most perfect host for a silencer. It is the closest to the ideal.....the "movie quiet" that has made silenced firearms notorious.
Whether its used for hunting or not is irrelevant.
<hunts squirrels and rabbits with a silenced Ruger 22/45 with red dot.

It would be easy to think "In MO" means you are in Missouri. "IMO" is the generally understood acronym for In My Opinion".

A silenced .22 may not make a difference to you, but it does to those that want to protect their hearing.
-No silencer makes a firearm hearing safe, but hearing safer.
-Macho stupidity about loud noises not bothering your hearing went out about the time hearing aids became common after WWII.
-a silenced .22 pistol or rifle doesn't spook game as much as a unsuppressed.
-silenced firearms don't just offer benefits on reduction of sound, but on flash and disguising the origin of the shot.

Yeah, I get that "it's not necessary IMO" nonsense, but the fact remains your opinion is factually incorrect.

My MKIII 22/45 and my M&P15-22 are my favorite... with the suppressor. If you use CCI Standard or a similar round in that velocity, it is pretty much the hollywood quiet in the movies. Even CCI mini mags in the pistol are quiet. I bought an ultra sonic cleaner to help with the bulk of the cleaning. I tried to use paper towels and it was like trying to clean the tip of a brand new magic marker... I just couldn't make a dent and had a pile of nasty paper towels and pricked fingers from the wire brushes. The 22 suppressors are definitely the hardest to clean, but worth it.

I don't know how anyone fires any rifle without earpro, even a 22. My ears are shot and basically in a constant state of loud tinitus. Frags, demo, IEDs, RPGs, mortars and being danger close to CAS have taken a toll. I have a Crosman and a Umarex Ruger Air Magnum and I have to wear earpro with the Ruger... the Crosman is very quiet. I love the electronic muffs these days.
