Just saw Grafs and sons are raising their shipping prices January 1. Hazmat to $23.50 regular shipping by web order $12.95 And phone orders to $14.95, that's $36 for primers and powders. Anyone else seen any other places announcing shipping increases.

Not gun related but some of the places we order dog and cat food from have raised everything - shipping included - and they have almost no canned food in stock.

Shocker, or not. Guess they bought the White House’s “the inflation is transitional” line and got tired of waiting for it to complete while they lost money…or they could have hoped the war on fossil fuels would just “create jobs” and not drive prices through the roof.

That’s not even this year.

This is just household use, imagine if your business runs on fuel, like shipping?

And that is despite the .gov releasing reserves…

It cost almost $13 for a large, double quarter meal at Mcdonalds. I don't order anything online other than bullets and other items. Anything that requires hazmat gets purchased locally. BTW I think the whole hazmat shipping thing is more for insurance purposes. The drivers aren't required to do anything different when hauling it and FedEx/UPS don't do anything different. My buddy ships hazardous chemicals via FedEx and said they handle it just like a normal package.

I don't think this is out of line.

Several other online stores have been $32 or above for powder or primer for a couple years.

This thread really has nothing to do with reloading, It is economics and other stuff not allowed.

As previously pointed out, economics is one of the main reasons people reload or not. I admit to not reloading 9mm for more than a decade because, at that time, I could buy loaded ammunition cheaper than I could buy the components. Purely an economic decision.

It would be better if it were about a free shipping promotional code for Graf’s that eliminated the various carriers charges from our vision but that doesn’t change the validity from an “in the cart” price vs “shipped” difference, from Graf’s.

Everyone on this forum has stated clearly they reload for economic reasons. Some like me consider economics tertiary; but cost and avoiding economic uncertainty are still prime motivation for being in the hobby.

But then they claim it doesn't save money as they shoot more.:what:

What good does talking about price increase do? It's not going to change anything, just like component shortages. Where are primers etc etc. The price is what it is and be prepared for even more increases. So as of the 1'st of the year lets all post companies that have increased their prices.:uhoh:
If people are trying to save money buying components now, they have missed the boat.

I started in September 2019 solely in response to Walmart stopping the sale of ammo here in nova. Today I do it because I really enjoy it and now have a very reliable and ample supply of 9mm & 45ACP. I don’t really know off hand how much mine cost per round nor how much factory ammo costs if I could get it but as you/we said, that’s not why I do it anyway anymore.
Edit: and I have to say if I did the math and found I was spending more not less than factory ammo, I’d continue to reload at the rate I am now doing…well, until my wife found out that is.

Well I will try and stay on topic of the reloading nature of this forum. Now that we have used some of our oil reserve we will have to “ reload “ said reserves. Where are we going to purchase this replacement oil from? At what price? From which foreign producer? I kinda think our government really didn’t think through the sale of reserves. The government sold oil at market prices to refineries. Refiners made products. The amount of oil from the reserves injected into the system was less than two days worth of crude consumption. Many refineries use their own crude. Exxon refines Exxon crude when possible. As does Chevron and Shell and BP. That adds to the ability to manage price. When forced to pay full price for crude that cost is passed to the consumer. Now just replace crude with primers or powder and we can make sense of the current component (gasoline) prices and shortages.

Yep, I got that notice as well. UPS sent me an email for my business shipping account telling me all rates were rising in January, so I also had to increase shipping rates. I think it's going to be across the board everywhere next year. Cost of fuel, cost of shipping materials, etc. No way to avoid it.

As far as the economics discussion on reloading. I still say nobody has ever actually saved money reloading. You just end up shooting more, and investing in newer and more expensive equipment, and buying more guns.

Maybe not. But it’s important that the topic of what is happening in this Country is talked about no matter where that conversation is taking place.
After reading this thread I sent a text to a gunsmith buddy who works for a shop I used to frequent. They stopped stocking reloading supplies years ago. I asked if I could piggyback a few powder and primer (hazmat) orders on their ammo orders. He said as long as what I want is at their distributor, no problem. They’ll sell to me at cost. I never bothered asking because the owners always said they won’t stock reloading supplies again - but they do special orders for people who buy their custom guns. Thanks all for the idea! :)
