Recently, I purchased an RIA M1911 A2 .40 S&W. This is a double stack that comes with a 15 round magazine. While talking with RIA support, it came out that this specific model is part of a limited run, a 'Special Edition' as it were.

Might anyone know how many of this 'limited' run was produced? It seems RIA support is incapable of finding this information.

Was this a marketing test? A marketing Campaign? A true 'Special Edition'?

Any thoughts?

I have one, too. I have only fired about 100 rounds through it. I like the feel of it and it is very accurate, but I have been having some FTF issues. I bought a couple of new magazines for it, but haven't had a chance to try them yet. I am hoping that will solve my problem.

Please let us know if you find out more about it.

Follow-up:

As best as I can tell. This 'special' run was more of a let's make a 'model and clear out some inventory parts'. Nonetheless, I am quite satisfied with the gun and am glad to own it. It is a gun with a small story. The delivered magazines did have an issue with a failure to lock the slide when empty.

RIA swapped the mags to no avail. I purchased several new mags from Greg Cote and they all work perfectly. After several conversations regarding slide locks and followers, I now see the issue as plain as day. The magazine base is too tall. All aftermarket bases are shallow and the magazine fully locks into place. The original delivered base is slightly taller and prevent full insertion of the magazine.

With that resolved, it is off to the races. We'll see how to turn this into a competition gun over time.

I have an older Mil Spec style RIA. The only issues are a fairly thin and fragile finish and a magazine that often failed to feed. Chip McCormick is the way to go for single stacks.
