Rockford Illinois Mayor Larry Morrissey Quits MAIG - Cites Anti Gun Stance Of Group

Rockford Illinois Mayor Larry Morrissey announced his resignation from MAIG at a townhall appearance June 22nd stating the chief reason he left Bloomberg's group is because he thought the group would be against illegal guns but has instead become a group looking for ways to ban legal guns and attack the rights of legal gun owners.

It's actually worse than that story reports. I did a WHOIS on the domain and not only is the domain registered to NYC, it is also hosted on NYC servers. That makes it a whole lot more that $50.

I don't really care HOW he came to this revelation. What I do care is that his stance against the Bloomberg group is now a matter of public record. That's a big blow to that group.

You just have to wonder about the rationale for the name of this group: Mayors Against Illegal Guns. I'd want my mayor be a member of that group, IF it simply did what the name implies it would do.

Any mayor who respects the rule of law, even regarding laws he does not like, would naturally be against illegal guns, right? Such a person would be against illegal everything. Now, he might at the same time be pushing for that law to change, but while it's the law and he's the mayor, he'd have to be in support of those within the local jurisdiction who enforce laws--he's their boss--and therefore he'd have to be opposed to illegal guns.

I think one would have to be really, really dense to believe that the thrust of gun control since Big Tim Sullivan in 1911 on up to today has been at controlling illegal guns and criminals; it has always been aimed at legal guns and lawabiding gun owners.

Since everyone else in the world knew from day one what MAIG was really all about, one could question his motives.

All it takes is one survey that shows 2% more of the voter population thinks another way, and many politicians will flip flop. Sadly, we're not necessarily talking moral people here.
