Rogers and Spencer, finally

A Feinwerkbau R&S would be quite cool and probably rather nice. Are they still in production?

I know that Pedersoli originally bought the Euroarms tooling for the R&S but I was under the impression that they never produced one. My understanding, about 8 years old, is that Pedersoli sold the tooling and it was last identified sitting in a warehouse in Poland. I've never seen a Pedersoli R&S here or in the UK.

As far as I know, only Euroarms ever made them. I have heard chatter about at a Hege made version but do not believe it to be true.

To rehash and add -

Euroarms was an importer branding Armi San Paolo revolvers until Armi San Paolo changed there name to Euroarms around the turn of the millennium.
I wouldn't be surprised if Hege branded them too.
I have 2 Hege branded 1851s, one made by Armi San Paolo, and one by Uberti proof marked 1969 and 1968 respectively.

Every Rogers and Spencer replica I have or have even seen first hand was made by Armi San Paolo, would be interesting to see any examples of R&Ss that could be confirmed to be manufactured by someone other than ASP, and not just re-branded ASPs for sure.

I wish I could have acquired this one when October Country offered it for sale ($325) back in December 2019, but I had already purchased two other cased sets from OC and was tapped out. It was part of the Dr. Jim L. Davis collection. It is a Euroarms and I don't have any other info about it; I just grabbed the photo.

Regards,

Jim

The Italians are totally uninterested in bringing back their discontinued guns.

The masses snatch up the brass framed “Cabela’s Specials” for wall hangers and the few who actually shoot these guns regularly are not their main focus.

Expat_alaska,
Thanks for posting that photo. Makes me want to revive (if possible) my dormant wood working skills. I have a fitted case like that for a Ruger Old Army and would love to have one for the R&S which has become my second favorite cap and ball revolver.

My blued "AC" (1977) Rogers and Spencer is marked "Euroarms of America" on the top barrel flat as its importer and has Armi San Paolo's logo of the founder's initials, "DGG," in a circular cartouche on the bottom flat of the barrel hidden by the loading lever as its manufacturer ID.

Isofar as I agree to some extent, the only major manufacturers extant are Uberti and Pietta (as well as some from Pedersoli). Neither one ever produced a Rogers & Spencer. Each manufacturer has a specific goal in mind insofar as marketing, and they try not to step on each other's toes. Uberti produces a Leech & Rigdon (albeit these days with an engraved cylinder) and Pietta does not. Uberti produces 1849 Pockets, Dragoons, and Walkers; Pietta does not. Pietta produces all manner of non-historical anomalies that, as you stated. Their mindset is different and IMO a bit skewed, but they are selling guns to whomever might want them. It is all about the market.

The current pandemic has put all Italian manufacturers on pause, and the normal supply of these revolvers is basically non-existent. Don't expect it to resume anywhere near pre-pandemic production. Anyone having a repro revolver for sale is going to put a premium on them knowing that the factory supplies are almost non-existent. There are a few dealers that have a few in stock (primarily DGW) but that will not last long at all, and then there will be an extreme drought.

If this continues I might want to take advantage of the situation. Want to buy a Pietta Leech & Rigdon .36 (never marketed by Pietta)? Even though it is a parts gun, it's yours for $500.

This is how I perceive things will go for the forseable future.

Just for no reason.
I’ve been on a paper cartridge tear the last few weeks. Yesterday I shot off 36 of them in the Rogers and Spencer. Used my newly acquired RWS plus caps. ErasGone cartridge former 28 grains 3F and a .454 round ball. Would like to try the Johnston and Dow bullet but like everything the molds are in short supply.
BTW. The R&S liked the combination, but then it shoots just about any load nicely.

Here is a newer offering
That is their London Gray finish!
EDIT: Oops! NOT the London Gray! I went to the GB site after posting and its blued. Funny how the picture above looked like the Gray.
From the auction: "Finished with Euroarms of America's deep, rich, high gloss blueing."
My Bad!

My understanding is Pendersoli did make high quality target shooter grade R&S models but do not anymore. Now their shooters grade cap and ball revolver is their Remington New Model Army replica. I believe both are well regarded by target competition shooters.

I have no Idea where Pendersoli got their tooling from though (until now?)

While I was stationed in Germany, I was able to shoot a friend’s Feinwerkbau R&S. It was sweet! He competed with it at the State-level for sure. Not sure if he went to Nationals with it.
