I had been looking to pick up a Romanian M1969 rifle for my surplus collection.

I found one at a local auction, it was missing the both sights, someone has removed the sling swivels and mouted a BSA 3x9 scope on it.

I am not happy with the look of the scope on it, they had also used copper pipeing to raise the scope to clear the barrel.

I got a Busnell 4x straight tube scope, which will clear the rear sight. Have a set of replacement sights on their way. Added a set of uncle mikes Mil sec not detachable sling swivels for it.

I am thinking when i am done the scope will look better on the gun and i will be able to use the irons, just by taking off the scope bases.

I have copy of pics, one of the Bubba scope mounts, and one of the gun with the old scope and no sights on it, however i have the new swivels on it.

Getting rid of that scope will help enormously. That looks ridiculous. I think your straight tube is a great idea, that should complement the lines of the rifle much better.
Good luck,

I agree the scope does look out of place. Its a 50 mm objective, i mean putting copper thins, come on. No accounting for taste. Why he took off both sights and the swivels i have no idea, the rear sight i can see since you needed it for the scope to fit. You how hard it is to find parts for the gun. Finally found a sets of sights and should be here soon.

I had a small scope on mine briefly, but the flip up irons for different ranges was one of the neatest features of the gun, I thought. When I'm plinking, it's too annoying to adjust a scope constantly, but flipping to the 50 or 100m sights is great.

I am going to put the irons back on. But since i allready have the scope mounts, will mount the Busnell with the irons on. So if i want to use the irons i can just take the scope off. Probally just see which i like better.

Just a update on my M1969 restoration. I added back the iron sights and took off the 3x9 scope that the previous owner added copper pipe shims to clear the barrel.

I added a used busnell banner straight objective scope. I think the gun looks much nicer.
