I picked up my safe/RSC today (14 gun Sentry model 5241), and am looking for a few accesories.

First, I'd like to put some rope lights on the inside of the safe. Where can I find this stuff? Can I cut it to the length I need, or do I have to deal with the whole length of it?

Second, I'd like a few of the velcro-backed pistol holsters/'pistol pockets' on the door. Does anyone know if velcro will stick to the back of the door on Sentry's safes? Its carpeted, but I cant really test its velcro-compatibility at the moment (the safe's stuck in my SUV until Saturday, when I can bribe a few friends to help me move it into my house). Any suggestions on which brand to get? Are there any brands to avoid?

Of course, I'm planning on putting in a Goldenrod, but I've found enough info on them to answer all my questions.

Thanks,
Kharn

Rope lights should be in the Christmas section of department stores, or at the stores that sell Christmas stuff all the time. I'm assuming this is what you're looking for? I think I still see them at Home Depot, but I'm not sure.

Any low-profile, low-cost lighting solution will work (obviously multi-color Christmas lights arent going to fit the bill). A user on a different forum suggested the halogen under-counter lights typically seen in kitchens, which I'll investigate when I search around for the rope lights.

Kharn, I don't think any Velcro holsters attach directly to the carpet that lines gun safes. Safe dealers sell a gun holster attachment, a long strip of velcro backing material with hooks on each end that hook over the door liner. Then the holsters stick to this, not to the door.

For me the concept is clever, but useless. The holsters do not feel secure, and I would not trust them with anything but KelTecs and other similar small guns. The problem with that is, the velcro holsters are "universal" and my .25 auto falls right through the holster!

I was in luck, the local gun dealer had a few pistol pockets in stock as well as a Goldenrod. Now I just need to figure out my lighting solution.

The nice gun safes have a close-knit fabric on the inside, the less expensive ones (like Sentry) have a rough carpet. The reason the velcro works is because you're trying to pull the handgun vertically downward, parallel to the velcro surface. It takes an awful lot of effort to make velcro seperate by pulling on the two peices in opposite directions parallel to the joined surface, unlike when you're pulling perpendicular to the surface. But, for the first 24 hours, I did leave my beater 1911 on the door to make sure it'd stick, instead of more valuable handguns.
