When he passed, my Grandfather left me his Remington 722 in .257 Roberts. This gun accounted for an awful lot of hill country white tails and a few feral dogs attacking lambs and calves during the decades he used it.
He had a (cheesy) Tasco 4x32 scope mounted decades ago after his original Weaver 4x was damaged.
The scope mounts are some insanely complex ones from Stith with adjustments in the mounts.
The gun shoots ok (not lights out by any stretch!) but I would like to rescope the rifle with a better scope. I have a couple of questions before I do.
Are these mounts really difficult to undo and reuse?
If I do swap, would the holes be custom-fit to these mounts or were they using factory drilled scope mounting holes?
I would hate to have to have this thing redrilled/tapped for other bases if it’s too much of an issue to reuse these mounts.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Stay safe.
