The jury is still out on Rudy, as far as I'm concerned; but, that said, I'm a little puzzled here.
It IS possible for politicians to change their views; don't forget that Reagan started out as a Democrat.
Seems to me that if a pol wants to come over to our side, we should watch him carefully--but welcome him and try to encourage and educate him, as opposed to spewing vitriol. If we refuse to allow antis to become pros, how do we ever make any progress?
I'll take a pragmatist over a pol who sticks to his "principles" to the point of tunnel vision any day. Yes, I do mean Ron Paul.
Paul will never get my vote. He wants to cut and run in Iraq (a leftist position); he opposes the Patriot Act (another leftist position); he wants to cut off all aid to Israel (a FAR-leftist position); and he's admitted to voting against bills he actually favored because they don't fit his personal interpretation of the Constitution, which seems to resemble a straitjacket.
There are a great many conservatives who dismiss him as a nut, and they aren't without reasons. The plain fact is, he doesn't have any more chance than Dennis Kucinich to get a major nomination, and in my opinion supporting him is a waste of time and money.
Sorry, guys. Rudy MIGHT get my vote; Ron won't. Being pro-gun doesn't excuse everything.
