Just above the knurled adjustment ring which loosens or tightens the fit between the stock and barrel is another ring, a spacer ring.

This ring is not knurled, it's smooth. If I grasp the spacer ring on my Takedown it moves up and down slightly.

Is this how it is supposed to be?

Thanks

that is the way it is...you looking for a problem, you may find one but that is normal.

Funny, I was quoting a Marley song to a guy the other day.

We were talking about the shrinking middle class, people and families becoming homeless and so.

I told him Marley said, "A hungry man is an angry man."

The detent on the threaded adjustment ring sets the spacing for everything. Its the only adjustment you have to use. And you can just set it once as it will stay in place unless you change it. You don't need to set the barrel overly tight, just a little resistance is plenty. Then check it by trying to wiggle the barrel. If there is no movement you are fine.
