I'm going to buy a 22lr rifle and have read tons on the Marlin model 60, Savage and the 10/22. I'm starting to settle in on the 10/22 Target model. Any thoughts on the "Target" model. Going to use it for target shooting and small varmits. Is this model accurate and reliable. I don't plan to do any modifications to it other than adding a scope.

I've had the target model for about a year and a half. It's utterly reliable. I've put at least 3 or 4 thousand rounds through it and can only remember 1 FTF. I use the cheapest Remington ammo I can buy. As far as accuracy, I use the cheapest Remington ammo I can buy so I'm limited by Mr Remington and not the Ruger... All that said, I'll seldom stray outside a 1 1/2"- 2" hole at 50-75 yards which is good enough for me.

I've worked on a few 10-22Ts and find them pretty nice shooters. All you need to do is to learn how to glassbed them and do a few more mods to make them shoot better. Glassbedding a 10-22 well is a very difficult thing to do, but can really turn a pretty good rifle into a fantastic shooter. Check out the Tips and Tricks forum on RimfireCentral.com.
