Want A New .22, Better Than 10/22 And Marlin Model 60?

Just trick out your 10/22. There are lots of aftermarket options, and you can do it a piece at a time.

You know, I used to go this route with things when I was younger, but then I realized that there is something to be said for a piece (guitar, car, gun, etc..) that comes out of the box complete "as-is", vs. something that needs tinkering with. I find that the former always is more rewarding, enjoyable, and worthwhile than the latter...hence my desire to find something non-10/22, as I've been down that road in other areas and know where it leads (usually back to a "Browning").

10/22 is the honda civic of guns.

there i said it now go "rice" out your 10/22 make sure you get a triple deck spoiler for it

I guess I'm a little different, I like solid platforms for modifications. Actually I would rather build from the ground up than buy an off the shelf "one size fits all".

Even my Martin guitars don't last long with out me changing out the nut and saddle and getting set up the way I like them. Forget electric guitars, I get better results making them myself, though I do love my old Tele :).

Good points, both of you.

Now, there's nothing wrong with a stock Honda Civic....but I prefer a stock Toyota Corolla (own an '05). But really, that analogy does fit what I'm looking for: Something who's design has been proven reliable and refined over the years, common parts, large knowledge base on it, simple, unassuming, function over form... Man, I think you may have just talked me into a 10/22!

As for the guitar thing...that's a huge slippery slope for me. Just "re-built" my Tele...don't know if I'll ever buy a new guitar again, as it's so much fun doing it yourself.

Better for $300....I seriously doubt it. Not new anyways.

If you hit the loto...check out the Volquartsens..high speed, low drag!

Otherwise, trick out your honda civic...or Ford fiesta...whatever...?!?

I have seen some 10/22's that shoot pretty darn good!

I always thought that the TC R-55 would be good with its steel receiver and screwed in barrel but those customers who have bought them do not speak favorably of them...?

Yeah, it's hard to leave them alone when such minor tweaks can make such a huge improvement. In most cases you don't really save any money but you get to spread it out over time.

I did quite a bit to improve this,

Not as much to this one,

I know you're talking about "tuners" who put a bunch of fiberglass and those stupid exhaust systems on FWD Jap subcompacts and think they have Ferraris, but the Honda Civic is actually a damn good all-purpose car as-is. Most of them never get an aftermarket part beyond maybe a new stereo, and they go for years with rudimentary maintenance or even benign neglect.

Unlike the Civic, the 10/22 is a POS, as-is. It's ONLY real merit is that it can be modified so readily by people who like to throw endless money after mediocre crap instead of just buying the good stuff to begin with.

Hushnel: Absolutely gorgeous bass. Job very well done...

ArmedBear: Good advice. Still, the 10/22 intrigues me...much like my Made in Mexico Fender Strat (my first "real" guitar) intrigued me. I need to give a Savage Bolt .22 a glance....or just suck it up and get a CZ, huh.

sorry i am a 1/4 mile guy and i was speaking from that perspective. its a fine (bit pricey) commuter car; but for racing why not buy something that is solid; and build on it if you want.

Actually, they are very good and TC's customer service is most excellent. Uncle Mike, you must not own one.

No, I do not own as of yet...

I ask every customer that has bought one to call back or stop in with their take on the rifle, those who have, has not spoken with great merit but have complained of less than adequate accuracy and jamming.

However, we all know how that goes.....take it with a grain of salt and a stiff shot...right?

I like the R-55 and plan on adding one or more to the collection...waiting to catch them on clearance on day.

You don't see many on sale in the wholesale world as you do some of the other brands.

22-rimfire, do you have one, how does it shoot, any difficulties with it?
