Just trick out your 10/22. There are lots of aftermarket options, and you can do it a piece at a time.
You know, I used to go this route with things when I was younger, but then I realized that there is something to be said for a piece (guitar, car, gun, etc..) that comes out of the box complete "as-is", vs. something that needs tinkering with. I find that the former always is more rewarding, enjoyable, and worthwhile than the latter...hence my desire to find something non-10/22, as I've been down that road in other areas and know where it leads (usually back to a "Browning").
