Picked up an unfired in box Ruger Single Six 32 Magnum 4 5/8 bbl. today with Bird's Head grip, fixed Vaquero style sights, and case hardened finish. Will make a nice compact little trail gun. Already have an SP101 32 Mag. and I love the caliber. Anyone out there have one of these Ruger Bird's Head SS? Like it? How does it shoot? Accurate? Certainly didnt need another gun but what can I say, it just fit my hand so well and the single six frame seems perfect for the 32 mag. Just happened to have a Ruger holster for it too.

Also wondering if I should have the grip frame converted to a regular single six plow handle, but the Bird's Head grip feels good and its style is growing on me.

I have a SS model. It's a fun shooter, but the sights have too much glare. With the rounded front and the polished finish, it is hard to get a good sight picture. Other than that, I like it with it's birdshead grip.

Have a pair of them. Fun little revolvers. I like the birdshead grip on the smaller frames but they look to small proportionally on the lg frame models.

Absolutely love mine, except for the fact that everytime I try to open the gate, I never can find half-cock.:banghead: I'll get that part fixed one day.

Mines fairly accurate. Haven't really put it on paper yet. But I'm able to break a clay pigeon, at 25 yds., around 60% of the time. I'd rather know what it can do in the real world, and not just on paper.

BTW- To me, the "bird's head" grip is the most comfortable grip Ruger produces. I'd love to get another to have a matching pair. Unfortunately I put a pair of Lett grips on mine, and alas, they are out of business now. Might have to try Gunbroker for those, just for my planned buy in the future.

JWF III, there are alternatives to Lett. Kamath River has done me some great grip[s fro Rugers and will be making a set for a birds head soon.

I started with a .45 Colt BHG Vaquero - soon added a .357M, ,32M, and even a .44M - which I made from a SBH and a QPR BHG gripframe. All were SS 4.6" with black Micarta grips - and the same size, although the 'fitted' QPR grips wouldn't interchange with the others. The .357M, which was the heaviest, left quickly - they are all gone now.

I also had a 4" .32M SP101. It and the .32M BHG Vaquero tied for the worst-ever title for a new revolver. Burrs everywhere. All faults, save one, were fixed - and they were fun shooters. My favorite load was a 115gr LRNFP (.32-20 bullet.) making ~800 fps from .32 H&RM cases. They hit ~1" low at 12-15yd from both - about an inch left with the Vaquero, easily corrected with the windage-only SP-101's cheesy adjustable rear sight.

The one fault with both was the chamber ID - at the upper limit of the SAAMI spec for .32 H&RM (.337+"). As commercial ammo - and my Dillon dies' sizer - measure .334" max OD, the brass is 'worked' excessively, reducing it's reloading life. Also, the bullets are as expensive as most .38/.357Ms - and a lot harder to find. Add the fact that I love my real adjustable sighted S&W revolvers, and you can see why I said goodbye ro all of my .32 H&RM revolvers, dies, ammo, and reloading supplies. Another plus - my wimpiest 125gr JHP 'plate pinger' .38 loads reliably drop the metal plates - not the case with my .32s! Enjoy them while you have them... then marvel at how 'neat' .38s are!

PS I finished my S&W-only metamorhosis last summer when I sold/traded all of my remaining Rugers. I have fewer revolvers - but more of what I want and like now.
