Ruger GP-100 SS .357mag. It started out as a regular 4" with bobbed hammer. I bobbed the bbl down to 2 1/2" and slab sided it as well. I polished the finish and the internal parts to smooth up the action a little. I also did a melt job on any parts that were sharp. The Ruger guns don't come with many sharp edges but there are a few and those got melted.

It feels wonderful in the hand. It is smooth all over with nothing to snag on anything. The weight and balance are just right. It soaks up recoil but has been lightened to 33ozs to make it possible to carry. It is still very accurate and easy to shoot. Full house .357 mags are a real option for carry in this large revolver. I wouldn't carry full house .357s in a ultra light j-frame snubbie because I think I would lose too much time in recovery but this gun makes shooting hot mags, no problem.

It is my car gun and coat pocket gun. It is still too large to carry every day. In the summer, I carry a S&W 642 but in the winter, the GP-100 is not too large for coat pocket duty.

I did all the work myself. I am interested in hearing any feedback on this gun. Do you like it? Does the work look decent?

That is neat! Have you thought about different grips? Is the lockwork noticably faster functioning?

Thanks.

I have thought about different grips but it seems the choices are limited on the GP-100 for some reason. The grips I have are smaller than the normal GP-100 grips. If you look closely, you can see that they are more rounded at the butt, some of the larger GP-100 grips are almost an N-frame square butt sized grip. If you have any suggestions for better grips, I am all ears! I wouldn't mind getting some smaller Hogue type grips or some nice finger groove wood ones.

The action was pretty smooth to start with because it was a used gun. All I did was a little polishing of the moving parts just to slick it up a tad. I haven't done anything to lighten the trigger pull yet because this is a serious self defense gun and not just a toy. I need to make sure it is reliable above all else. I may order some Wolf springs but that is about the extent of what I am going to do to it. The trigger is not bad as it is so I am not in a hurry to mess with it. It is smooth enough for me but a lighter pull couldn't hurt.
