Ruger GP100 frame

I bought a brand new GP100 in .357 mag, 4.2" barrel. I am looking for a holster. I have Googled, read several articles but nowhere does anybody agree if it is a K,L,or N frame....does anyone that own a like revolver know what frame it is and what is best holster for carry say for hunting.

K, L, and N refer to frame sizes for Smith and Wesson, not Ruger. Searching for a holster specifically built for a 4.2 inch GP100 will give you the best fit. The GP100 frame is most similar to a S&W L frame, however.

Soft armor makes an inexpensive bandolier style holster that I like for my 6 inch GP100. Triple K makes a holster that fits L frames and GP100s in 4 inch. You could also look into custom makers as well. Many options are available for the GP100. Good luck!

Likely because the GP-100 isn't any of those frame sizes. Those designations refer to S&W frame.

For hunting, you might find something like the Safariland UM84R useful

I have a Bianchi 5BHL, Galco DAO, and the UM84R. I really like the UM84R for ATVing or attaching to my pack. It covers the gun and is relatively quick and easy to draw. The 5BHL and DAO are also great holsters that I use often. Galco seems to be producing a better holster than Bianchi at this time.

I've carried mine owb in a Triple K for many years and the holster has held up great. I take it hunting, camping, even gotten it wet a few times and it's never let me down.

I have a Simply Rugged rig for my GP100 that has given good service.

I've heard people claim that they will usually fit reasonably well in a S&W 586/686 holster but I've never tried it.

Any holster made for the L-frame should be fully compatible with the GP.

Most holster companies have a drop down menu to select your specific pistol or revolver, then it shows all the styles available for it

The GP-100 fits the same holsters that the L-frame Smith fits. My buddy and i used to shoot as a team, him with a 686 and me with the GP. Our rigs were interchangeable. They also use the exact same speed loaders.

Exactly! You are spot-on. My GP100 Match Champion and S&W model 69 both perfectly fit the 4" Galco DAO holster, plus will also fit the Diamond D Guide's Choice chest rigs. The GP 100 and Model 586-587's frames are so close they are interchangeable holster-wise. Ditto with speed loaders.

Leather holsters made for S&W L-frames will fit the GP100. The frames and barrel profiles are so close that leather holsters are interchangeable. My GP100 Match Champion will fit the same holster as my S&W Model 69. Both will fit the 4" Galco DAO holster...this is a hunting holster with strap that may be worn either strong side or cross-draw. Both will also fit the Diamond D Guide's Choice chest rig. This is a very comfortable rig to wear when rocking a back pack.
