On Thursday, I called a local gun shop which has sold between one and three LCP's a week for that last couple of months. It was my fourth call that week, and they said they had 2 or 3. I went and bought one. I shot it today.

I like the little gun. I'll say this, too: though it's not the easiest to get a grip if you have above average sized hands, it doesn't bite as hard as a Walther PPK. At least for me. The Walther feels better in the hand, but when it goes off, the hard edges nip a bit. This was not at all a problem for me with the Ruger LCP. I did have a problem, though, when I tried to rack the slide on an American Eagle 95g FMJ. A couple of times the slide caught, and I had to rack it and do it again. It did the same thing on a MagTech 95g FMJ. I should also say, this only occured when I was shooting at some water jugs and the mag only had one round when I cycled it. Any time I loaded the mag with 6 rounds, it had no problem when I racked the slide. Also, the LCP never had a FTF or an FTE when I pulled the trigger, including the final round in the mag. It might have just been a weak or lazy slide racking.

Accuracy was good. I was just plinking cans, but from 7 yards, I could pop them off with ease. Not bad for a tiny gun with tiny sights. I've been drooling over this gun for a while, and now I've got one in my hot hands. I should also say, it slides easily into the front pocket with an Uncle Mike's #2 pocket holster. It looks like a wallet or an iPhone.

Anybody interested in some casual ballistics? I shot the .380 round at some milk jugs filled with water. Hornady JHP XTP 90gr blasted through three jugs and bounced off the fourth. (If you want to now how my 9x19 faired a couple weeks ago: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=368693 ). I did it again and this time it entered the fourth and floated to the bottom. I shot it through 4 layers of clothing and it went into the fourth and bounced off the fifth if I recall correctly (sorry, I shot a lot of differenct stuff and I should've written it down), but it had only partially expanded. I shot some FMJ 95gr (AE and MagTech). That landed in the fifth jug. I also shot an FMJ through a jug, a 2x6 and I think it stopped in the jug after that (again, I should've written it down. But the FMJ went through the board, which stopped my 9x19 Fiocchi JHP XTP). I think I'll carry FMJ in my .380. Somebody tell me why I shouldn't. I was surprised at the penetration of the JHP in the .380, but I wasn't impressed. And the cross-section of the .380 expanded is not a whole lot bigger than the FMJ. I'd rather have the power of fairly good penetration from the little gun.

Not saying I disagree with you but here are the kel tec guys tests (they have been at this a lot longer)

I currently stagger Remington golden sabers and Santa Barbara JSP in my LCP mags.

I also forgot to mention this:

When I went to purchase the LCP, a Kel-Tec P3AT was next to it. I've handled them before, but I thought, just for fun, let's check this out with th two together. I don't care if Ruger ripped them off. Whoever says they're the same and just go with the Kel-Tec since they're the original--well, okay, you can have you Kel-Tec since you love it so much. I'll go with the Rip-off Ruger every time. To be fair, not all Kel-Tec's I've ever picked up were quite this bad, but I think this is a nice representation of quality control. This Kel-Tec had a chunk of plastic sticking off the side-bottom of the grip that was absolutely ridiculous. I don't know the term for it, but it was sloppy molding at it's worst--as in toy gun from Walmart worst. The plastic molding ridge stuck out the bottom side about 3mm and could easily be felt. It was silly. It was the silliest quality to behold on any item you would pay $250 for--gun, electronics, anything. To be fair to all Kel-Tec owners, I've never shot one. Perhaps in that regard, they shoot like a Sig. But the feel and quality of the finish is cheap as snot.

Touché Tse and uneasy. You guys got me.

With regards to the LCP and .380 ballistics. Anybody with comments or info on LCPs or .380 JHP vs. FMJ?

I am on the fence on the subject, as I said before I stagger the mag with Remington GS which are the heaviest (102 grain) HP's available and according to test's I have read is a very good round. Decent expansion with decent penetration. I have read both pro and con on corbon DPX in 380.

And the Santa Barbara JSP spanish military surplus, which is a real hot round.

When I carried a Makarov in 9x18 the same FMJ vs HP discussion occured, I eventually settled on PS Grand FMJ as its specs were real good and as real hot or real good 9x18 HP's were few and far between. This is not the case for the 380 as many different HP's are availble and are easy to find.

My LCP has been flawless in feeding and firing every ammo I have fed it. 600+ rounds down range

Several different HP's and FMJ's.
