On Thursday, I called a local gun shop which has sold between one and three LCP's a week for that last couple of months. It was my fourth call that week, and they said they had 2 or 3. I went and bought one. I shot it today.
I like the little gun. I'll say this, too: though it's not the easiest to get a grip if you have above average sized hands, it doesn't bite as hard as a Walther PPK. At least for me. The Walther feels better in the hand, but when it goes off, the hard edges nip a bit. This was not at all a problem for me with the Ruger LCP. I did have a problem, though, when I tried to rack the slide on an American Eagle 95g FMJ. A couple of times the slide caught, and I had to rack it and do it again. It did the same thing on a MagTech 95g FMJ. I should also say, this only occured when I was shooting at some water jugs and the mag only had one round when I cycled it. Any time I loaded the mag with 6 rounds, it had no problem when I racked the slide. Also, the LCP never had a FTF or an FTE when I pulled the trigger, including the final round in the mag. It might have just been a weak or lazy slide racking.
Accuracy was good. I was just plinking cans, but from 7 yards, I could pop them off with ease. Not bad for a tiny gun with tiny sights. I've been drooling over this gun for a while, and now I've got one in my hot hands. I should also say, it slides easily into the front pocket with an Uncle Mike's #2 pocket holster. It looks like a wallet or an iPhone.
Anybody interested in some casual ballistics? I shot the .380 round at some milk jugs filled with water. Hornady JHP XTP 90gr blasted through three jugs and bounced off the fourth. (If you want to now how my 9x19 faired a couple weeks ago: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=368693 ). I did it again and this time it entered the fourth and floated to the bottom. I shot it through 4 layers of clothing and it went into the fourth and bounced off the fifth if I recall correctly (sorry, I shot a lot of differenct stuff and I should've written it down), but it had only partially expanded. I shot some FMJ 95gr (AE and MagTech). That landed in the fifth jug. I also shot an FMJ through a jug, a 2x6 and I think it stopped in the jug after that (again, I should've written it down. But the FMJ went through the board, which stopped my 9x19 Fiocchi JHP XTP). I think I'll carry FMJ in my .380. Somebody tell me why I shouldn't. I was surprised at the penetration of the JHP in the .380, but I wasn't impressed. And the cross-section of the .380 expanded is not a whole lot bigger than the FMJ. I'd rather have the power of fairly good penetration from the little gun.
