I purchased a new Ruger LCP .380, and find that when the magazine (with finger extension) is loaded into the gun, the mag rocks forward and back about a 1/6 of an inch when you squeeze your hand. I was thinking of epoxying a small shim to the front of the back strap at the bottom, where the mag goes in.
Have any of you done this?

I'm sorry I don't have any experience with the LCP yet, tpaw, but I am considering one AGAIN now that they've supposedly worked out all the major kinks in the design.

I look forward to the responses to come and to hearing the latest opinions of this handy little pistol.

Two people at work have them and they have that play. It doesn't seem to bother the gun any. I would hesitate to shim magazines because they might stick in the gun when you need a new one very badly.

My LCP has a little play but so far, about 250 flawless rounds (thru the newer one) there has been no issues.

Mine has a bit of wiggle and it has been 100% reliable, and incredibly accurate for such a terrible trigger. If Ruger would concentrate on building guns that shot better, and less on building guns that won't get them sued they might have something.

Mine has a tiny bit as well.

OT some
When I insert a loaded mag,my slide drops 75% of the time.
Should it drop at all,or drop every time?

Thanks

Automatics do that sometimes. All of mine have done that from time to time. you can seat them gently or decide to not let it bother you.

I have the extensions and I know the play you are referring to. Dosen't seem to be a problem with mine after 350 rounds. Also, remember not to "slam" the magazine in the well as it WILL reduce the life of the mag catch.

Lots of guns have magazine play. Test the gun and see whether the play affects functionality.

FWIW:

My wife and I have three LCP's and we've never noticed any magazine play...

But, I can give you my OPINION of the fine little Ruger LCP..

I love 'em..:D

P.S. Here's a photo of my LCP w/CT and Innovative Arms upgrade, and my wife's engraved slide model.

-Nice to know, Makarov918. I just put a P3AT on lay-away and I'm pretty sure that I picked up an LCP mag in a box of reloading stuff.

Once I pick up the little KelTec (probably around Election Day) I'll see if the mags are interchangeable.

Mine rock a little but it doesn't effect function at all. Our LCP's have run with everything we've feed them.

I just picked up a brand new LCP a couple of weeks ago and the original magazine that came with the gun has that play. The second magazine I bought does not. I had a careful look at both magazines and it seems that the variation is coming from the magazine catch slot on the magazine body. There seems to be a tolerence variation between the magazines. It does not appear that this will affect feeding function since the feed ramp is well below the magazine follower when the slide is fully retracted. It does sort of bother me though in a comically OCD way.
