I bought an LCP when they first came out and carried it for years as an off duty and backup gun. It served its purpose adequately, but the trigger and sights made my three-times annual qualifying a bit tough.
About two years after the LCP II came out I tried one in hand in a gun store. After about three minutes I plunked my card down and started filling out the paperwork. It felt better in my hands with a slightly wider grip, the trigger was no longer long, stiff and stagey, the triggerguard was a bit larger and squared (if you like that finger-forward grip style), the sights were easier to use and the gun has a last-round hold open feature that the original didn’t have.
Both guns have had the front sight painted white and then blaze orange. This makes seeing it worlds easier than the black lumps acting as sights.
If you are comfy with the original LCP then buying the II really won’t do much more than give you a smoother, lighter trigger pull (with the Glock-style blade safety in the trigger face). Recoil is still not much fun and ammo isn’t cheap, so if you are like me you just grit your teeth and muddle through the range sessions with these micro pistols.
If you desire a bit more ammo, the LCP Max could be another option. You get more capacity with slightly more weight and grip girth, but operation is very similar.
