Ruger Mini-14 2-Shot Okay... BATF!

I've watched it a few times now since you said that and the best I can figure, he is releasing the trigger far too quickly. Not sure how much practice he had. So, yes, it's probably that he released the trigger faster than the maximum cyclic rate of the firearm. The AC-556 operates pretty fast, so I'd have to say at least 1,200 cyclic. Gun can't keep up. The other thought is that the gun isn't fully resetting or it's missing the secondary sear completely. That crossed my mind.

Creepy? Yeah, before he was banned, the troll was leaving all kinds of overt threats and idiotic badgering.

For those who are 'weirded out' by this thread, you are buying into the same logic as the antis, that there is something either good or bad about an inanimate object... it's a mechanism. Gun people use firearms as tools and treat them as such. Anybody who thinks this is creepy needs to side-step over to the logic party and think about it for a minute. It's a tool, this is a quirk in the mechanism, nothing about this is good or bad, it just is.

I have a Mini-14 I have set up exclusively to use this mod... fun times at the range, I can empty a 20rd mag from the shoulder, while aiming, in less than two seconds.

This sounds like something that they will tell you is OK untill lthey decide to go after you. At which point the **** will hit the fan and you will be in it. For some reason i dont trust this. The ATF seems like they would change their rules when it benefits them. Maybe I am paranoid, but I would be skeptical....
That being said, sounds like an awesome time to play with something like that.

Basically, it makes bumpfiring a Mini-14 not only possible but easy from the shoulder... I was wondering if I was doing it right, because I basically get FA fire.

It's not bump firing, as a bump fire uses the recoil of the rifle to reset the sear.

It only jammed three times during the "demonstration."
That was probably because he was trying to go too fast. If you release the trigger before the bolt fully closes, the rifle will not fire. You have to recharge the handle to return it to battery.

Seems like there was something out like this called the "Intensafire" for the AK-47 in the late 80s to early 90s. Anyone hear about it?

There was also a company called "AW-SIM" that seems to have been shut down.

You might be able to do it with a set screw.

And my AK has a Red Star Arms adjustable trigger with a set screw on the disconnector...

Wouldnt screwing the disconnector out of the way?

I have a feeling that if one opened up the disconnector such that it released the hammer all the way when the trigger was released, it would work.

And yes, it would make the trigger a single stage.

You can not fire only one round without loading a magazine, charging the handle, and dropping the magazine afterwards. This setup is not conventional and not a "daily driver."

OK, I just fiddled with the set screws on my AK's Red Star Arms adjustable trigger. It will now fire one round on pulling the trigger and one round on release of the trigger. Took about 5 minutes.

Interesting. Will be interesting to see how accurate it is.

Finally got to test this modification in the AK, as it's completely legal for me to do this. It fires once on pull and once on release. Puts two shots into 2" at 25 yards with some practice, at practically FA rates of fire. However, there is no auto-sear, so releasing the trigger too fast gives you a hammer follow and no 2nd shot, so you have to recharge the gun. In order to make it reliable so the hammer would always release only when the bolt was closed, you'd need another sear - and then you have a 100% illegal machinegun anyway.

Seems tactically useless to me, but it's fun.

You probably could do something with the selector to have 1-shot and 2-shot positions.

speaking of selectors...

If you could get this to work in an AR-15 varient, then the desire to shoot single shots would be solved with by a quirk of the AR mechanism. If you hold the trigger back on an AR while cocking the gun, the hammer gets caught by the disconnector. Nothing new there, but if you then turn the selecor back to the "safe" position, the hammer falls from the disconnector, back to the trigger sear ! So, want a single shot after ripping through half a mag? Just rotate the safety up 1/4" and back... Try it with an empty AR, and see if I'm wrong.

Still 2 Many Choices!?

An Army veteran is in a grim Minnesota prison after he loaned his normal AR-15 to somebody.
The borrower supposedly took it to a range where the trigger mechanism malfunctions, and fired several shots in a row. I've read that this has happened to a few normal ARs.
Somebody at the range quickly called the police or ATF.

The ATF refused to permit an impartial firearms expert to testify in the defendant's behalf.

His sentence is over two years. Is it worth some risk if the interpretation is found to be incorrect (if possible?), with a new President in January and a brand-new Cabinet?

Good mod, but I found a more long term way of securing the staple, first straighten both ends, don't cut anything, and bend it so it forms a tight U with the "legs" touching, then place it between the sears, and with a long thin screw driver, bend the bottom of the U forward or backwards as you see fit, and the seperate the legs at the top of the staple and bend them out away from eachother, and very tight to the bottom of the sear, then to adjust it if its not quite catching enough sear land, lightly rap on the back of the sear with a blunt object and recheck the catching surfaces, if they butt up against eachother you're there, a little too tight is ok too, may even prevent the dreaded "accident..." Use to your discretion, this is only information about a theoretical modification to a firearm I might not even own? CYA boys and girls. Side note, I noticed a wet t shirt folded and draped over the barrel keeps the muzzle from climbing and cools the bbl sooner... Duh-figured it couldn't hurt to share that.

on the AR-15, the JARD trigger system does the exact same thing. it is adjustable at several points, but you have to be extremely careful when adjusting it.. i had one installed in an AR,adjusted the trigger per there paper manual, took it to the range, threw in a 30rd colt mag, pulled the trigger and it emptied the magazine in about 2 seconds. i almost messed myself as i wasnt expecting it.

i wonder if that trick will work on the newer mini 14s.
