I'm interested in a blued Ruger MkII with 5.5" bull barrel (model MK512), as seen on Ruger's website here.

Does anyone know about what I should expect to pay for this pistol in the wonderful state of Maryland? I'm thinking about $250-260 would be a fair price before $10 MSP fee and sales tax, but would like the advice of those more experienced with these matters.

Ya oughta go south, to Fredericksburg, Va. Just priced a couple MkII anniversery editions at a couple local pawn shops there, NIB, for $229. You could get it shipped up to your FFL and still be ahead.

Might be some decent places to shop at in Pa too, but I don't know much about Pa prices.

Yankytrash:
I've never used this FFL before (I'm at college on the total otherside of MD from my home, but I dont have a preferred dealer at home due to above-MSRP prices in that area), so a transfer would be a pain. I found out that dealer price is $225ish for this model, but dont know what the dealer will think about my $~255 offer. Hopefully the guy will be willing to negotiate with a pile of cash.

Kahrn- Are you thinking new or used? If new, I am under the impression that it has to be manufactured prior to 1 Jan '03 or you can't buy it in state. (Must have an integral lock after 1 Jan.) Am I mistaken?

jrhines:
I'd prefer a new one (but a used one would not cause me to lose any sleep if the price was right), so yes, the dealer will have to find one that was made before 1/1/03. Supposedly, there's a large enough stock of most factory-made pistols that were made before then that MD residents do not have to worry for a long time.

Kharn,

I just bought a Mark II on Saturday at the Frederick gun show. It was $259 or so and I should be getting it next Thursday.

The shop was 3R gun shop....mostly a PA store but they keep a small shop in Frederick as well. Great guys......PM me if you want the number

Norton: Did you get one of the standard or target models? (Targets have adjustable sights, and cost slightly more)

This one has adjustable sights, blued finish, two mags and a case

I found a dealer a few miles away that can get me a "used" ;) ;) MkII (or any firearm) for wholesale cost plus 10%. I've got another dealer nearby that has a bunch of MkIIs in stock that I can try out, so I will be headed over there on Saturday.

MD law says handguns have to have an integrated lock if made after 1/1/03, but that doesnt apply to used guns, so the dealers have a list of other dealers outside of MD that buy guns, fire them a few times, then sell them as used to MD dealers. You gotta love it when gun dealers get together to make stupid laws useless.

Kharn,

I don't know where you're coming from location wise in our fair state, but when I was shopping I found a few used ones up in the Glen Burnie area. There are two pawn shops close by that are also new gun dealers. Prices seemed very fair and the proprietors very friendly. Let me know if you want specifics.

My parent's place is down in Calvert (45-60 min from Glen Burnie), but I'm in Newark, Delaware for school until June (cant swap my residency due to taxes and parental decree); so I'm pretty much limited to gun dealers in Cecil County for the time being.
