The new models are ridiculously simple to slick up for action tune. I'm not talking about just light trigger pull weight alone either. I personally have 2 new model Blackhawks and a Super Blackhawk, and all 3 are glass smooth. It's very simple to do that yourself-you don't need to pay a gunsmith for an tuning job-just some people prefer it. I've even had people comment that they thought my guns was old model at first because of how slick they are.

stalkingbear - What all have you done? I have a lightened trigger in mine and have given consideration to polishing the mated surfaces in my firing assembly of my NM, but that's all. A more crisp trigger would be a bonus.

What I do is replace basepin with a larger unit, replace cylinder stop with oversize and fit it, change ejector rod with an oversize unit (bullseye), bevel transfer bar's top front edge, and polish all interior mating/contact surfaces, then treat all contact surfaces with Brownell's Action Magic 2.

Hunting would be one exception for a practical use. But do you need that 6th shot? Not generally. Is it legal to have a 6th shot? Not everywhere.

Curious here: Can you tell me where in America that five shots are "legal" but six shots aren't?

First center-fire handgun I owned was one of the last "3-Screw Old Model" .357 Mag Blackhawks made.

To me, even though it was only safe carried "5-up", I thought the action was a tiny bit smoother than the "New Model" Blackhawks/Vaqueros/Super Blackhawks.

There are many states that limit you to 5 rounds for big game hunting. Georgia used to be one, but that may have changed. (They have been changing a lot of hunting regs in the last couple of years. Makes it hard to keep up with.)This is mainly intended for rifle hunting, but I know GA used to not specify just rifles. So it pertained to all weapons.

I prefer the OMs. The Colt like action works best for me.

This is a discussion about revolvers-not rifles (nor shotguns for that matter). So, just so I'm getting this right, you're saying that the state of Georgia permitted the use of five shot handguns to hunt with but forbade the use of six shot handguns for the same purpose during the same period of time?
