I would like to order a few magazines for my P89 with a higher capacity than the 10 round ones that came with the gun. However, I have seen higher capacity magazines in other handguns that stuck out past the end of the frame by quite a but (I think they were 20 round). I want to avoid that as this is my go everywhere utility gun and I think that the extension would have a tendancy to catch on things.

My question is, what higher capacity magazines can I get that will (a) not stick out more than the stock magazine (I am guessing 15 rounds?); and (b) what brands should I look for, or look out for, in order to preserve the fact that I have thousands of rounds through this gun and it has never failed to go bang. I don't want to mess that up with a crappy magazine just to get a few more rounds as that was the reason I bought the P89 in the first place.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Mec-Gar makes excellent 15 rd magazines for the P series 9MMs. More pricey than the cheaper mag but they work. The Guys over at Ruger Forum swear by them.

Yes, Mec-Gars are good, and the factory 15 round mags are available for a few dollars more. I have one no-name brand I got a gunshow and it works good too. I guess I was lucky.

You can't go wrong with Mec-gar in my experience. They are the OEM for a number of the gun manufacturers.

I don't have anything but factory or Mec-gar.

I bought Ramline 18 round magazine for my P 85MK II in 1991,I am not sure they still making those magazine or not but it work great and only plastic base sticking out (about 1/2 inches from grip ) .:)
