I dont know much about red dots other than playing with an open red dot on a Crossman pump pellet pistol.
I'm considering getting a closed red dot to be used on a Ruger PC or possibly 10/22.
I'm hoping for some info and guidance particularly in regards to cowitness & 1/3 cowitness. I think I understand the difference (dot perfectly lined up with iron sights vs dot just above iron sight but iron sight still in view thru glass; please correct me if I'm misunderstanding)
I'm considering the TRS-25, TRS-125, & Romeo 5.
The TRS-125 looks to be the new offering to counter the Romeo5 but it doesn't have shake-a-wake and is still 3moa.
On a Ruger PCC, which of those red dots cowitness or 1/3 cowitness and with which riser (if any)?
If I used the high riser, would the iron sight be visible thru the riser (under the red dot body)?
What's generally preferred? Exact cowitness or 1/3 cowitness or tower the red dot over the iron sights and look under the red dot to use the irons?
Like I said, I'm a newb at red dots. I'm guessing that I might like 1/3 cowitness but that's based on not much - I generally set my scopes to shoot 6 o'clock sight picture so maybe 1/3 will semi replicate the sight pic I'm used to?
In regards to putting them on a 10/22, it seems they all those red dots would. just look over the iron sights sinve 10/22 irons are pretty low and the rear folds down - IOW, no cowitnessing at all. Correct???
Help me learn, please. Babble on... I'm all ears and eyes right now.
PS, I did search 1st, lol
