Ruger Security 380 vs S&W EZ 380

I tried them both my grand Daughter had the smith 380 ez we were shooting it at the range . I had handled one at the shop but not fired one . But I had purchased the Ruger security 380 because of the way it felt in my hand and its capacity also its a Ruger . this Pistol for me has been far better than the smith and now my grand Daughter is liking the Ruger also .

The Ruger has more capacity with the choice of two different magazines and has no grip safety. For me it is the winner.

I chose the Ruger Security 380 for these reasons, and the price, and very favorable reviews on YouTube. This pistol really needs breaking in, but after a few hundred rounds it settles down. I've 400 rds through mine. First 200 saw Failure to Feed issues, which went away. Shoots well, and it is easy to shoot. Easy on the hands. Plus there's that fifteen round capacity - think about it.

Edited to add:
Both of these pistols are hammer-fired, and have 1911-style manual safeties. I've come to appreciate the manual safety in any pistol, and that for me was a factor taking a look at these both of these pistols before making my choice.

I looked at the Ruger, but chose the S&W EZ and like it; that easy rack sold me, plus it's much easier with a Recover Tactical Slide Rack addition (about $25 on Amazon and $15 at midwayusa). The biggest factor in the choice for me was the trigger; I hate the "safety-in-trigger" of the Ruger and prefer the internal hammer of the S&W. Sweetest shooting 380 I own, accurate, and no issues with FTF's or problems for me. I do like grip safety's and have no problem with this one being hinged at the bottom.

A 32 magnum revolver. There are some new ones out. That's my preference when I'm having hand issues. Low recoil and no slide to rack.
Unfortunately ammo is not easy to find at the moment, whereas the factories are cranking out 380 by the pallet load. For people who don’t reload or want factory defensive ammo it’s kind of a desert out there.

i have a s&w ez380, had a ez9 and sig p238, and handled (not shot) a ruger security lite rack 380.

the ez9 has a terribly mushy trigger and is obviously punchier than the ez380. its only advantage here is cheaper ammo. there are better 9mm pistols.

with the p238 i just couldn’t get comfortable carrying such a small cocked and locked, single action, pistol, ymmv. recoil was certainly noticeable but not painful.

the lite rack 380 felt great in the hand except that its overly tiny safety is a worthless distraction. if i didn’t have the ez380 already i might just get the ruger.

the ez380 is a compromise that works well enough for me, now. im not a fan of its upside-down grip safety but am used to it after 600 rounds. it is truly easy to load, rack and handle. recoil is absorbed ok. if i ever cannot like the ez380 i will replace it with a beloved ruger sr22…and stay even further away from obvious threats than i do now.

if only every top tier 380acp pistol were to be offered in 32acp…

Due to some hand surgery, I have lost some strength in my dominant hand. I am currently going to PT but it will be a long road to recovery. Also, my doctor has suggested I limit recoil for about a year. My regular EDC is a Walther 9mm PPSM2. I had considered using one of my 32acps for EDC but they are all blowback action so there is some recoil and they are relatively heavy (Walther PP, CZ83, Beretta 81). I could go with a 22 for EDC but prefer something a little more substantial. Therefore I am considering the Ruger Security 380 or the S&W EZ 380. The physical dimensions are very similar. The EZ 380 is a little more expensive and has an 8-round magazine. The Security 380 is about $100 less and has a 10-round and 15-round magazine. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. Thank you in advance.
I would rent/try both and decide, if you can.

I have shot the Ruger and like it. It's easy to rack and has a nice fiber optic front sight. While it's not attractive, IMO, the ergonomics and grip texture are good, and it has better capacity than the S&W. It's large for what it is, and the reduced slide weight and springs make recoil almost negligible. It's obviously more recoil than a .22 LR, but it doesn't feel like a whole lot more to me. I had read that the recoil was mild, but I was surprised at just how little it recoiled. I experienced no break-in period or need for one. It has good reviews online from women and men alike. One strike against the company (not the gun) for me is that I had a bad experience with Ruger customer service on a different gun, so I'm a little leery of their customer service.

I have held and handled the S&W, but not fired it. I did not handle the Ruger side by side with the S&W, but I believe the S&W slide requires a little less force to rack if I had to go from memory. I didn't like the grip safety on it, and grip safeties don't bother me on other guns. I found the firearm a little awkward. I enjoy other S&W offerings, but I just didn't like the way the gun felt for me. I have not had to use S&W customer service to compare the two. Their revolvers are excellent.

The best thing would be for you to do a head-to-head firing comparison if you have the opportunity.

The only Ruger plastic gun that has ever felt good to me is the full sized M&P so I have no experience with any other. My wife has the Smith EZ and It lives up to it's name as it it easy in every respect.. Easy to rack the slide, easy to load the mags, and even the recoil is easy. I had one of the early CCP's and it fit like they used my hand for a model to make it by. It is a light gun and as the arthritis in my wrist got worse it became unpleasant to shoot so I traded it off. I would like to shoot the 380 model and compare it to the EZ but know of no one that owns one.

Well, I'm south of I-40 and I-20 and I-10 but a mile or two north of I-2 and I have the S&W 380-E Z, Ruger Security 380, Walther CCP 380 and PK380 so if you happen to be in the neighborhood I'd let you shoot all four.
Thank you for the offer but I am at the junction of I-65 and I-10.

I've had a 9mm EZ but not 380. I have a Security 380 and would choose it over the S&W. It's light rack too and shoots very comfortably. 15+ is better.
